Bodily /Sexual Functions in New Wave Songs

Postby n/a5 » Mon Apr 11, 2005 12:25 am

OK I will be the first to say it: This is shallow and maybe disgusting but nonetheless interesting. I was listening to my Nero Lance's New Wave Hits Volume 3 when I came up with this topic. In the song "You Make Me Feel So Good" our beloved quartet sings the following lines:

"I wish I was on the waves in the sea white caps break on my wet dream"

I never thought much about it before but as I was explaining the song to my wife (who is not into New Wave at all) I thought how that line while beautiful was odd for a song. So I thought what other songs make mention of masturbation or bodily functions? I am fascinated by exactly how artists worked in natural essential everyday things (going to the batroom, picking your nose, farting etc.)that do not normally make it into everyday conversation.

A few rules for those that want to play along:

(1) Plain old "making love" doesn't count
(2) Sleeping doesn't count
(3) We are going for taboo things so things like combing hair, standing around sitting down do not count.
(4) No implied functions. For example Cyndi Lauper's She Bop would not count but the Divinyls "I touch myself" would. It has to be in your face and leave no room for doubt.

Au Pairs - Come Again
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax (pretty much has the sound effect to go with it just in case the lyrics were too subtle [;)])

Just about anything on Descendents' Enjoy would count. Including "Orgofart."

couple off the top of my head (no pun intended)
ABC--Unzip ("She's vegetarian, except when it comes to sex")
The Vapors--Turning Japenese (maybe too vauge a reference)
Deadeye Dick--New Age Girl ("She don't eat meat, but she sure likes the bone")
Lords of Acid--A lot of stuff, but I Sit on Acid in particular
Another ABC--A to Z (Eden: "I want you to kiss my snatch")
XTC--Pink Thing
S'Express--Theme From ("Suck me off")

all I can think of at the moment...

Yeah, Frankie is pretty subtle...NOT. Oops, sorry, how lame. These guys are pretty subtle too: Killer Pussy with "Teenage Enema Nurses in Bondage"

Then there's all these songs with "sex" in the title, the all time irony king being the *12-inch* mix of Berlin's "Sex (I'm a...)". Other good ones:

Plastmatic's "Sex Junkie"
Spark's "All you ever thing about is sex"
Gleaming Spires' "Are you ready for the sex girls" (yes, by the way)
Gun Club's "Sex Beat"
The Embarrassment's "Sex Drive"
Soft Cell's "Sex Dwarf"
Squeeze's "Sex Master"
Sexbeat's "Sexbeat"
Sparks again with "Sextown USA"
and Human Sexual Response's "What does sex mean to me?"

This makes me think that one could put "sex" in front of nearly any word in the dictionary and have a song title. Some random examples as I stick my finger into Websters:

Sex Airline (cool!)
Sex Barrier (not cool)
Sex Campaign (Bill?)
Sex Crossfire (messy)
Sex Dane (Amsterdam anyone?)
Sex Exhaustion (yes!)
Sex Hangar (eew)
Sex Marmot (ouch)
Sex Object (I kid you not, random)
Sex Queen (!)
Sex Rail (either a killer alternative to the bed or a killer alternative to Brit Rail)
Sex Sepulcher (DUUUUUDE!!!)
Sex Stationmaster (where do I apply??)
Sex Thirst (this is pretty crazy)
Sex Unsuitable (hmm, that ends the interesting string)
Sex Ziggurat ("is that a sex ziggurat in your pants or are you just happy to see me?)

"Krisco Kisses" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

As far as I know, it's the only song about fisting.

Sample lyrics:

"Take it to the top my love,
Let’s take it to the top,
With a fist way past the rest,
Take it to the top,

You fit me like a glove, my love,
You fit me like a glove,
Be my friend my be-bop,
Take it to the top my love."

Nasty.

"Sexy Eiffel Towers" by Bow Wow Wow

It's about Annabella (then 15) having sex WITH the Eiffel Tower.

Sample lyrics:

"I love you Eiffel Tower, you've got something I admire.
I love you Eiffel Tower wrap my legs around your spire."

I'd add Gary Numan's "Everyday I Die" which is about masturbation. Some lyrics:

The problems of need
I need you
Obscene dreams in
Rusty beds
No one came here
Tonight
I pulled on me
I need to

I unstick pages and read
I look at pictures of you
I smell the lust in my hands
Everyday I die
