"WTF" moments as New Wave went mainstream

Postby thegoldenyear » Sat Jan 22, 2011 3:54 pm

Anyone got any random "WTF, this actually happened?" memories to share?

It's the summer of 1987. Joan Rivers has been fired from The Late Show. Suzanne Somers guest hosts, and somebody books Wire....

Brilliant interview, by the way! Anyone catches Wire on tour, they should ask if they remember this...

Whoever booked Wire for this fair play to them! Certainly a WTF moment and well worth watching:

Adam Ant covering The Supremes on Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever. Hard to believe this is the same night as Jackson's moonwalk.

Soft Cell performing Tainted Love on the Merv Griffin show. The expression on Merv's face said it all.

John Denver's reaction to Annie Lennox after Eurythmics performed Sweet Dreams at The Grammys, with Lennox cross-dressed to the hilt. Denver made some sideways comment when it was over.
