I have no idea....I was always working myself. But I do remeber Nappi....good DJ.

I was known for some stupid stuff like that too. A little too much JD makes you do funny things and we DJs always drank for free.

Heartbeat was a great place to go on Saturday nights. My girlfriends and I dated the bouncers there and we saw some great shows. Apb, the Ramones, Mission uk ect. I still have the ticket stubs! At the end of the night my friend would always request Ball of Confusion by Love and Rockets and the DJ (Whoever it was, thank you) would always play it. Great small club to go to when you didn't want to deal with Spit or Malibu.

I fondly remember back when I lived in Long Beach (NY) 92-00, My wife and I paid a visit to the Bu during their last few swan song days(mid 90's). We struck up a rapport with a DJ who was doing his final gig that night. Man was this guy dejected and bitter over something! But when we rapped with him over some playlist favorites of ours, man did his demeanor change! He started rifling through his vinyl and cued up.
It was like he wanted to go out in a blaze of glory (nevermind the place was almost empty) He proceeded to run through our request list (too many to mention) and we just freestyled our merry hearts away (no kidding)
The best part, a few songs into the set,was when this DJ came out onto that huge dance floor and rocked out with us like he'd been freed from some personal prison sentence. This guy was experiencing his own private Idaho. Must have stayed there until 3:45 am (mind you we were OTH nuwavers by that time. I'll always remember that outing and that still unknown DJ. (I still have a copy of his personal playlist)

Hey Rob....Monkeys eh ? That's where I first got to play all good stuff, no disco crap. What a blast. Some good bands played there too. the Statix and Parental Guidence Suggested were two I just thought of.

Does anyone remember the girl that used to sit by the door at spit and give hand outs? She was totally goth looking and a little scarey since new wave was kind of new then. It had to be 1982. She would sit and not say a word and then APB Shoot you down would come on and she would get up and dance. I remember newsday doing an article on the "new wave of music" in the magazine part of the paper. SPit girl was in it. I wish I saved it over the years. Does anyone remember the guy who dressed like Adam Ant? He would be at Spit all the time, though I would sometimes see him at Malibu. Ah those were the days..

I remember a girl @ Spit, not the girl you described, (I was 12 in 82) She used to be the only person up & dancing on that tremendous dance floor when the place first opened then as it got packed she'd leave the floor.
I heard about the Adam Ant guy from older friends of mine. When LIR had the Resurrection Sunday in 95, someone called up & spoke about him. I've long forgotten his real name. The only thing I remember was that the only reason he dressed up like Adam Ant to get chicks. Obviously it worked.

I grew up in Westchester and went to college upstate 1980-84. When I came home for summer and holidays, I tried to go the following clubs (depended mostly on what bands were playing). In NYC there was the Peppermint Lounge, Irving Plaza (yes way back when), Ritz, Danceteria, CBGB, Roseland Also concerts at the Pier in the summer. Later on 84-88, I used to go Maxwell's in Hoboken. Closer to home for a while the Left Bank in Mt. Vernon had some good bands

Since I didn't really have the means to go to clubs earlier than that I missed out on a lot of other places such as Max's Kansas City, Mudd Club, Palludium (when it was a concert hall, not a disco) and Trammps.

Yes....one cannot bring up all the L.I. clubs without mentioning the ones you just listed there Bobby Retro. I spent time in most of them when I got the chance.

I'm not sure buy I seem to remember hosting a WLIR night at Maxwell's and was surprised to find big time LIR listeners.

Anybody remember the WLIR Non-Conformal Balls held by WLIR at the Ritz ?

Those were two of the best spinning night's I ever had. The musical acts that played live were Lou Reed one year and David Johanson another....the latter show featured a NY Dolls reunion including the late Johnny Thunders and Sly Sylvain on bass. What a night.

One of the two (I forget which) was special as Led Zepplin's Jimmy Page said I was a great DJ. Don't know why but I always felt great about that.

Another 80's club memory:
Remember the songs where club-goers would countdown to the refrain? My favorite was Pete Shelley's "Homosapien".
"And we're homosapien toooooo...."
"1-2-3-4!"
(This probably makes no sense unless you were there)
There were other songs with countdowns - can anybody remember?
And were these countdown just a 80's new wave thing?

BTW, how come nobody from LI remembers the nw cover band Vixen!!!

Hahn is working in that new place by Wantaugh parkway. Which is where she had been for years before it was sold.

The old place was called Luxe. I have no clue what the new place is but someone recently told me to check it out as they were playing the old stuff. I got kids....so i don't get out much, unless it's to get milk and diapers [:D]
