REQ: Japan

Hello guys, need help with Japan singles' tracks. Thankfully everything from their Hansa/Ariola years was released in Japan, but their Virgin stuff is rather thin on the ground. I'd love to get any (preferably all :D ) of these:

Gentlemen Take Polaroids 3.28 - from the namesake double 7"
Burning Bridges 3.59 - from the same double 7"
The Art of Parties 3.55 [single mix]
Ain't That Peculiar 4.49 [version] - from Cash Cows compilation and Nightporter 7"
Canton (live) 4.05 [edit]

If possible, in lossless please - or at least mp3 320 kbps.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Passing_Stranger,

I've got the Cash Cows version of Ain't That Peculiar, and the "Original 7 inch mix" of Art Of Parties (single). @320

Is the Canton Live Edit different than the "single" live version on Oil On Canvas? I should be able to up them within a day.

live edit is just that - a truncation of the version on Oil on Canvas, it was released on the 7" of the single. Would be great to have for completion.

As for the others, please post them when you can :D

These that I posted seem to still be available on the Gentlemen 2003 remaster CD. Link removed.

Thanks AJWAVE for what you posted. I'll see if Art Of Parties is different or the same as the one I have & upped.
I'm thinking, if Gentlemen & Burning Bridges 7" versions don't turn up (or in any quality form) it would probably
be easy to edit. Gentlemen just fades out at the 3:something mark, I'd bet the same for Bridges too.
If the actual 7" versions can't be found, I can "fake" them for you Passing_Stranger.
If someone DOES up a 7" rip I can clean the files, too, if need be. Much luck :D

Gentlemen and Burning Bridges 7" versions can be found on the Gentlemen 2003 remaster CD.
I'm sure it's still available, so won't post those. Swing 7" is also on that CD, matter of fact Ain't That Peculiar (alternate 1981) is too,
so if that's the Cash Cows version I'll delete the link.

According to discogs.com I don't see none of the tunes requested on the following Polaroids releases:

2003 japan remaster VJCP-68872
2003 uk remaster promo CDVX 2180
2003 us remaster CAR 91016-2
2003 uk remaster digipak 7243 5 91017 2 9 (copy protected)
2003 uk remaster CDVX 2180

All includes: "Taking islands in Africa (Remix)", "Width of a room" and "Experience of swimming" as bonus tracks only
which is the catalog number of that remastered edition includes those tracks?

Wouldn't know, but it's an expanded edition. Easy to find, to download, just didn't want there to be
issues on the board, here, with tracks still available.

That "expanded edition" is unofficial. Of course it's just fantastic and should've been released instead of the tepid "remaster" on 2003 - but still. I don't know the sources of the compilers (whoever they are), though the sound is very good, therefore I'd love wav/flac/ape files. I took a look at the great Nightporter fan site and see that the 7" versions of "The Art of Parties" and "Gentlemen" were released on several various artists compilations - but they are impossible to find. I just thought somebody here has those by any chance.

Oh yes, and Burning Bridges 7" has an alternate mix, so it cannot really be faked.

Anyway, I seem to have found those 7"s at the vinyl store here in Moscow, I'll try to buy them and if the sound is good then I'll post them here :)

Though I'll still need 7"s of "The Art of Parties" and "Canton"...

Hi Passing_Stranger,
Yes it very well could be fan-compiled, and it sounds like you're familiar with this expanded version.
It has all the tracks included you asked for, and then some. If you don't already HAVE this,
please send me a PM through the board, and I'll link you to it.

Cheers!

I think Japan's entire back catalogue could use a reissue program. Those 2003/2006 cds sounded fine but lacked in bonus material in particular all the 7" versions, alternate mixes etc. Or at least a comprehensive best of on 2 cds with all the missing stuff would be great. Am i asking for too much ?

I'd be just as happy with the actual JAPAN version of Some Kind Of Fool. Sure, nice to hear the later
Sylvian re-works, but would much rather hear even a demo of the original. Live recordings are hard to come by as well.

All the Virgin/EMI Japan/Sylvian remasters I have are the EU copy-controlled crap. They should give me replacement discs for free. Wish I had tried to find the UK pressings back in the day. I've found most of them on FLAC (AccurateRip, so from non-Cactus discs), but it's not the same.

The only one i have that is copy-controlled is the box set of Tin Drum which is a bummer because that's the most expensive to buy now :(
