Share: DM "It's Called A Heart" U.S. Remixes

Postby Fred Taghon » Fri May 29, 2015 7:56 am

I tracked down the U.S. remixes of "It's Called A Heart" ( http://www.discogs.com/Depeche-Mode-Its ... ease/50289 ) - in full CD, master tape quality (no vinyl rips - except as noted below)! I may be in the minority, but "It's Called A Heart" has always been one of my favorite DM songs, and the fact that these mixes remain out-of-print and hidden away is a shame. So I'm sharing here with true DM fans.

A few adjustments had to be made to get these tracks as accurate as possible. I had to adjust the pitch on each one (the Emotion Remix was too slow and the Emotion Dub was WAY too fast) to match the original BPM. Both are now 135BPM. Then, to recreate the Emotion Remix, I had to edit out 2 sections and then insert the first 11 seconds of my own vinyl transfer at the beginning - but it's a VERY clean 11 seconds. The Emotion Dub track was missing the first couple seconds of the actual mix but it's just a short sample that isn't really necessary so I left it as is.

The EQ of both tracks was also rather lackluster (way too much low end) so I adjusted the EQ to even things out and give both mixes a little more punch.

It is derived from the Razormaid Mix, yes. That is the source track that I used in fact. That mix is 1 minute longer than the Emotion Remix but the Emotion Remix is contained WITHIN it, aside from the 11 second intro that I had to use my vinyl for.

Oh yes, "It's Called a Heart" is a sadly neglected curio from the DM's early days. This song has always been quite a favourite of mine, there's something exotic in it (maybe it's an aftertaste of a video, though), and that little synth solo midway is way too short! Thanks for your really meticulous work and for sharing it here - much appreciated! :D
