My re-creation of:

"Les Mannequins (7" Edit)" 2:41 AIFF
https://www.sendspace.com/file/hdbcn2

"Les Mannequins (7" Edit)" 2:41 WAV
https://www.sendspace.com/file/qd4gat

I used the version on "The Model - Retrospective 1975-1978" CD from 1992 as the audio source. I didn't tweak the edits on this one much at all.

I too would like to hear the longer Spanish 7" version. Taking the song down to less than 3 minutes is so limiting. Many Kraftwerk singles were like that though it seems. Maybe the record company thought they had more of a chance of getting radio play if it was short and sweet - they're music was certainly an oddity in the scheme of everything that was "popular" at that time, so perhaps radio was more likely to devote air time if it was shorter. Just guessing. But I personally would prefer an edit that doesn't mash the verses up against each other.

Passing_Stranger wrote:I've actually found out that the UK and non-German 7" releases of "The Robots" featured a 5:04 edit of "Spacelab" - whereas the German one had a 3:34 one. I tried to find that longer edit, but to no avail :( And I cannot buy the singles on Ebay - for some reason they are way too pricey right now...

Will be waiting for "Les Mannequins" - and may I be so bold as to ask you for further work? Various "Pocket Calculator" edits exist with only an LP version on CD. But I don't want to be too demanding, though, and take too much of your time. Though if you agree, I'll provide the sources, of course! :)

I would be very interested to hear (and of course re-create) the "Spacelab" edits. Let me know if you find them.

I have actually already done 7" edits of "Pocket Calculator" and "Numbers", but I based them off of what I was able to find on youtube, so I'm not sure how close they really are to the real thing. If anyone has these in their collections and are willing the upload them, that would help legitimize the edits I've done or prompt me to redo them.

It seems there was a different 7" edit of "Numbers" in the USA than in the UK. I found a youtube video of the USA Promo 7" - it starts right out with the drums and fades right before "Computer World.2" segues in. My re-creation of this clocks in at 2:56 The UK 7" I found on youtube has several edits, includes a minute or so of "Computer World.2" and is sped up significantly. My re-creation of this one clocks in at 2:37 - I also kept a version of this BEFORE adjusting the pitch (speed) so it's the same edit, but in the original pitch/speed of the album version. This one is 2:45

I also re-created the "Pocket Calculator" 7" edit, I believe based on the USA 7" I found on youtube. It comes in at 4:02 and the label states 3:55. So I don't know if it was a misprint or if the song was sped up (like the UK "Numbers" edit) for the 7".

I DID just discover that the 7" mix of "Computer Love" is a completely different mix than the album version! How did I miss that all these years!!!!???? I wonder then, if the 12" singles of "Computer Love" or the 12" where it's coupled with "The Model" is a different mix as well?

I found the German 7" edit of "Spacelab" on youtube. People tend to snip off the beginnings and endings of stuff they post on youtube so I hope my re-creation is accurate. It's a pretty simple edit - just cuts off a bit of the intro and then a huge chunk in the middle.

Fred, thanks for your efforts!

Regarding "Computer Love" - the 7" is a different mix, yes, but the 12" uses the LP cut. I can post the 7" mix if you want.

As for the files - here's the US edit of "Pocket Calculator" for you to work on: https://www.sendspace.com/file/ruryj4 It clocks at 3:55

The regular 7" - https://www.sendspace.com/file/bvkg03 It's in flac, my own rip, maybe you can just clean it up as it's a bit noisy.

And "Taschenrechner" is here, starts at 47:07: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMZJJOh2nVM

Thanks in advance!

It seems to be the A side and the B side of the 7" in one file.

I haven't forgot about the "Pocket Calculator" / "Numbers" 7" re-creations. In fact, I've completed the USA and UK 7" edits of both of them, as well as the "Dentaku" 7" edit (see link below). The "Dentaku" 7" and the UK 7" mix of "Pocket Calculator" were easy as they are just early fade-outs. The USA 7" of "Numbers" eliminates the intro and then just fades before "Computer World..2" chimes in, so that was easy as well.

BUT, I am waiting to upload the "Numbers" and "Pocket Calculator" edits because in doing some research, I learned the "preferred" version of the English version of the "Computer World" CD is the 1985 USA release, manufactured in Germany, with the "target" design on the CD label. I own the 1987 release by Elektra but am pretty certain our local library has the 1985 version. I checked last week but it was checked out. If it is indeed the 1985 version, I hear it has the best sound quality because it's a direct transfer of the original master tapes, and I'd prefer to use that for the 7" re-creations. So bare with me just a while longer on those!

Meanwhile, here are the full-length and 7" edit of "Dentaku" (I found it as a FLAC rip of the Japanese "Computer World" CD a few years ago, so I didn't have to used Passing Stranger's vinyl transfer - though it obviously helped me re-create the 7" edit accurately):

"Dentaku" AIFF:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/lca0ki

"Dentaku" WAV:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/28fivz

"Dentaku (7" Edit)" AIFF:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/ksmsp0

"Dentaku *7" Edit)" WAV:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/cmr7w6

Also, can anyone confirm that this edit of "Der Telefon Anruf" starting at 13:04 is legit???:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-Fcx4SGKqo

I used to own "The Telephone Call" USA 12", but I honestly don't recall if the version of "Der Telefon Anruf" on the B-side was the 7" remix (now available on the German remaster of "Techno Pop"), or an LP Edit that is featured at that YouTube link. I find no other reference to an edit of the LP version on any releases of the "The Telephone Call" singles.

You are welcome!

That would be awesome if you could post the "Der Telefon Anruf" from the US 12"! I guess I never really listened to that track back in the day - it was usually the 8+min remix, then "House Phone" then back in the sleeve it went. Even if it's not a legit edit, it's pretty clever - but I'm hoping it's "real".
