Request: One Nite Stand - No Musicians Allowed (198?)

This completely unknown nine-song LP was self-released by One Nite Stand, a new wave rock band of five. There is no information on where the band was from or when the record was released. The members were Gil Smith (lead vocals), Deric East (drums), Mark East (bass guitar), Glenn Salter (guitars), and Rod Nance (keyboards/synths).

I'll revive this feed and give you some info on the band. The lead singer Gil Smith had a daughter and she is my girlfriend. Im a vinyl collector and we just ordered the record from the eBay posting seen on this page. As you might notice by this posting I'm enamored with the record not only because of Gil and the band but also because it has great tunes. We're incredibly proud to have the record. When it arrives we may post whatever information we can for you guys. I may even be able to elicit some answers from Gil himself, much to his chagrin.

All of the band members hail from Wichita, KS where we were born and still call home. According to my girlfriend, they moved to the LA area after that record was published, which caught a studio's attention. The LA story goes like this: one member had trouble selling his house back in Wichita and it impeded his move to LA where the band was being pressured to use a studio musician to fill his spot. The band rejected that notion. I've met most of the members in Wichita where they continue to play music together. They possess that musical talent that leaves you wondering. We're very proud to know these guys and to be related to them. Especially considering not only their talent but the great fathers and friends they've become. Surely Wichita cannot have greater native sons.

All goodwill to you guys for wanting info on the record! Pass along questions and I'll see what I can do.

I picked up a copy of this LP last year at a record store in Minneapolis and quite liked what I heard. Been a favorite of mine and I spin it once in a while. I gotta say it's frustrating that the record doesn't not state the year it was released but my guess is about 1984 or so. It'd be awesome you can give us some more info and background on the band and this release. Cheers

all the members are connected on Facebook except for Deric, the drummer, which I think passed away. I first discovered them yesterday & it is a great album.. They sound like the Clocks also from, Wichita, KS. What else is out there that I have been missing?

There was another similar band from Wichita called "Dogs?" which featured Jerry Sumner of Clocks.

You're welcome Qbertqubes. One Nite Stand's sound is like The Cars, The Producers, and Faces in the Crowd mixed together. The song "Shock Therapy" reminds me of The Action, a Florida-based hi-tech AOR outfit with an album entitled "Louder Than Words."
