New Wave Survivor-Idol: 1st Cut - Vote Again!

Postby scramjet » Fri Apr 29, 2005 6:57 am

NWO voters have spoken. The Pet Shop Boys and R.E.M. are off the island. Chris, Neil, Peter, Mike, Michael and Bill, pack your bags and start rowing. It's been great knowing you. The lovely KYYX4ever and Rubbeet921 will have some nice parting gifts for you on your way out including the New Wave Survivor-Idol Home Version.

OK, now vote again for whom you'd most like to see off your island or fired from your boardroom.

Vote for your least favorite! It doesn't matter if you didn't vote the first time. I'm going to try making this cut members only.

You can review the first round here.

Once again Adam Ant easily. Only the guy from Scrubs, that guy from the movie Dodgeball, and Adam and the Ants have a thing for pirates. [8]

I'm voting off U2 for the same reason I would've voted off R.E.M. had they not already been booted (and I'm a huge fan of both). Simply put, these two bands transcended New Wave and the NW era. I don't even think of them as NW acts to be honest.

Interesting take, ghosty. I also love U2 and R.E.M. I put them in to see what people would do with them. I started listening to U2 and R.E.M. about the same time I started listening to new wave and got away from my old hard rock habits. So it's a littl

Well, in that case I'll boot off Adam And The Ants if they don't get the axe this go round. I could live without 'em.

Honestly, for me, none of these would have made it to the island to begin with. I like them all, but none would have been even in my top ten. The one and only masterpiece I would claim if I had to surrender every last LP or CD would actually be from the g

Your reply hits the nail on the head Ekahob...it's kinda cool to 1) dig up these personal misgivings for clearly popular bands and 2) see who among these popular bands will last the longest when the tough choices have to be made. For me, it warms my heart

As much as I love early U2 (as most of us do), U2 are simply not New Wave. They're among the artists who could eaily be played on early-80s radio, blending in well, but just not NW. Sorry guys.

Their Boy material, the synths in Unforgettable Fire, Two Hearts Beat as One, and the 12" version of New Years Day do still fit a New Wave sound though. But your right in that like The Smiths & Echo they kind of fit a different transcending sound then tr

Hopefully the Smiths will go away soon. I cannot vote for anyone else till they are gone. I'm not gonna whine about it though like someone would.
