"Groups" that were single people.

"Lighting Seeds" was one person. Kind of ego-centric, but anyway... can you name any other of these "groups" of one? (And no, Wham! doesn't count as one, even though to this day no one can figure out what Andrew Ridgely did--musically that is.)

The Magnetic Fields, the 6ths and Future Bible Heroes are all Stephin Merritt although he occasionally has a rotating cast of people sing his songs for him.

Sting would have said The Police...but that's just him.

The The is a big one.

These immediately come to mind:
World Party (Karl Wallinger)
Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor)
The Archies (...sorry)

...and then I got thinking about the converse of this topic: bands with names that sound like one person, like Matt Bianco, Hubert KaH, Danny Wilson.

I'll stop now.

I think there was a guy in that band. It was two people, but Hope Sandoval is the one everyone remembers of course[:)]
