Muddling through Depeche Mode remixes

Okay, so I was pretty jazzed when Depeche Mode came out with what I thought was a definitive remix collection. But if you've listened to that 3 CD nightmare you realize you've got a handful of classic mixes inserted between a ton of 2004+ "new" mixes. Definitely not the collection I was hoping for.

So the box sets - they're great - but there are - literally - up to TEN mixes of certain songs.

I loves me the Depeche Mode but I sure as heck haven't got the time to sit through a gazillion versions of "I Feel You" to figure out which is THE remix.

So, anyone out there know their D'Mode remixes inside and out?

Why you ask? I've been doing some DJing and I am burning CD-Rs of all the bands that I play - for some bands it's a piece of cake (Siouxsie, Smiths, Joy Divison, etc.) but Depeche Mode is just a friggin nightmare. For tracks where there's ONE single version and ONE remix (i.e. "Get The Balance Right") it's a no brainer - but their later stuff just got out of hand and, to be honest, I stopped paying attention right around "Violator".

Can't plug this one particular DM remix enough: 'Dream On' (Pink Noise Remix)
Takes a sullen and seemingly pedestrian acoustic tune and gives it a seriously infectious ambient techno workover. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED [:p]

Jase, that about right. The bulk of singles after [i]Violator[/i] aren't worth the time. I'd use the single version instead of these new re-mixes. Most of them suck anyway...

Now starting with Music For the Masses the remixes just got better. Violator remixes are great. Song of F&D arent bad either.

I highly recommend the "Hijack Remix" of Strangelove, from the Strangelove '88 single (also in the box set). It's a 4-to-the-floor stomper, and even has a tiny People Are People sample in it. I think it's the best remix of this song, and great for a club

Good suggestions, I'm working on the CD now - we'll see how it goes over. Keep posting if you've got other ideas...

One I DON'T agree with is the "Black Tulip Mix" of "Black Celebration" HOW BADLY I wanted that mix to just RULE - but it pales in compar
