Although it can be said that the majority were little more than pieces of marketing meat, they did nothing much for me. If new wave depended on marketing and chart success then it would be a very limited genre of music; just because they had hits doesn't necessarily mean they appeal to me. Some of the artists that people didn't like on the thread appeal to me like Heaven 17 and Kajagoogoo for example.

Still, at the end of the day it's all about opinions and mine just happen to be right. [;)]

Bruiser - I'm a fan of the music scene of the early 80's as my username suggests, and just because I do not like some of the bands that give you enjoyment doesn't give me a reason not to be here.

The term, New Wave, is American in origin when applied to the music scene of the early 80's (as NME documented at the time, it was used to describe the punk scene of the 70's) is not classed as that in England and a lot of bands such as the Pinkees, Mezzoforte, Not Sensibles, Alternative Radio, A Popular History of Signs etc. I enjoy listening to greatly, but may not be known to others, either outside of the base country or beyond.

Just remember Bruiser that some of these sacred cows may contain BSE. [;)]

nowhere in my post do i say this, so simmer down chicken.

it was a straight-forward statement. you named so many of the big ones, some that one might say "define" new wave, that i was curious as to how you ended up here.

Jeez Frank you have marked out the majority of what people consider New Wave. If you like New Wave and yet are incredibly picky then you may have a hard time rating yourself as a "fan". My two cents....[}:)]

I'd have to say the only few artists I really don't get into a LOT would be:

Soft Cell- Tainted Love & Sex Dwarf are great but there rest of their catalog is practically unlistenable. His voice really grates in places.

David Bowie- I just find him rather drab and boring. I like the Let's Dance era most rather then the artsy stuff.

Thompson Twins- Too many ballads, dosen't hold up well today. Still a few good songs.

Howard Jones- See above.
