I'm not trying to sound pretentious myself (hell, I'm not even sure if I spelled it right) but didn't O Superman come out in the early 80's? I can't imagine it was out as early as '75 as IBWorshipper wrote, but I've been wrong many times before.
I always appreciate an artist with such intellectual, 'high art' views of their music; you should read the liner notes of some of Eno's Ambient albums - wow! Not to say that something sloppy like the Stooges doesn't sound great either...

If I was her mom and dad I would not want this crazy mutant in my house. I am pro-life but in Laurie's case I would make an exception! If my kid was going to turm out like such a freak I would consider abortion as an option!

I was going to start a I Hate Joe Jackson thread....maybe I will hold off on that. Everyone posts opinions around here and never gets the type of scorn I am getting. I say I hate Laurie you say you don't...who cares. People bash my beloved U2 all the time around here and I never once (to the best of my knowledge) lashed out as some of you have here! I posted a thread that got 38 hits and was read over 300 times....obviously Laurie strikes a chord with people LOVE her or HATE her. At the end of the day I don't give Laurie as much thought as you guys think. I posted this because the other day driving to work 3 of my preset XM radio stations played Laurie at the same time. Since I don't like her I had to switch to the 70's station and I was pissed. So I had the idea of sharing my dislike of Laurie's music with the NWO. Up until that point and from this point on (face it this thread will sink with time) I really don't think about Laurie. Yes I meant to shock with some posts just to get everybody's blood flowing...but its getting vicous now so CAN WE ALL BE FRIENDS? [:)]

Laurie Anderson is most certainly an acquired taste and not for everybody. A lot of new wave/alternative, etc. music may be on the "fringes" but Anderson's is definitely towards the outskirt. I like her stuff but do not listen regularly (and I really believe without her, we wouldn't have artists like Jane Siberry--another acquired taste).
"O Superman" interestingly enough is still ahead of its time, but because of the content is "dated"--and is probably no longer the model song. But "This is the Picture" is most certainly timeless. A lot of her work also remind me of performance art/spoken word type of pieces but also including new wave music. But it's still rather avant garde and I think more people would appreciate Anne Clark by comparison of poetry to new wave/alternative music, etc.
