Yeah definately Peter Murphy, David Sylvian, maybe Adrian Belew too. I dunno if you can classify any of it "new wave" but Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance has at least a three octave voice or how bout Elizabeth Frazier? Michael Allen of the wolfgang press is pretty interesting. h-m-m I guess i'm stuck in a 4AD mode.

I think Boy George had a really nice, smooth, crooner style to his voice.

I always loved Martha Davis' voice. I know it wasn't technically great - but she communicated so much with it - it was warm, sexy, or detached, scared, mysterious, etc. I'm not sure if I've heard another singer who affected me that way, and someone who nailed the emotions in a song the way she does.

Lots of great vocalists mentioned here, but I'd happily trade my lousy singing voice for the pleasant pop tenor of a Glenn Tilbrook or a Neil Finn.

Welcome, welcome and a most definite yes to that one.
It wasn't til Ben Orr took lead vocal on 'Drive' that the Cars would score a #1 hit. No small wonder...

Let's not forget Glenn Gregory of Heaven 17--great voice
Love em or hate him I always thought Bono had a great voice as well

And for females for sheer range and power how about Bjork?
