ok--which years sucked most for modern music?
I didnt break it down by decade because it did not really make sense to. Music in 62 was not like music in 69..and so on.....

I would have chosen the more recent years - but I like a lot of Trance, so I went with the '60's - I really find very little to like from that era....freakin' hippies.

'95-'02

Most of the shit that we have to endure up to now is still coming from this time period. There were some great bands making memorable music, BUT you have to do some digging to find it as they were not popular acts.

The other time periods I can find all kinds of great music, either mainstream or underground. Just the Space Age alone (1950-197?) can yield a whole wealth of music to last me for the next ten years[8D]

I would have to say 95-2002. That was when we had to endure a lot of the teeny bop phase - Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, NSync, etc. Also the rap that has completely taken over the air waves.

I'd say 1995 to 2001. Two thousand two was an amazing year for music, Interpol's debut being one of the stellar albums from that year, along with The Strokes' debut.

I'm with Nate, Migraine and XXX, no question. No way can I dis the 60's, that was the original wave of the British Invasion, without which there would be no New Wave.

Well, there's ALWAYS good music in any period if you seek it out but I guess I'll go with 1972 to 1977 (despite loving Bowie, Roxy Music, the early rumblings of Punk etc.) Too much bloated corporate rock for me though.

Of course Motors votes for MY favorite period!!!Damn you! [:D]

Hey, hippies were only prevelant the last three years of the 60's. More of 'em in the early 70's.

The current period is leading the voting. I disagree. I guess you just have to know where to look for it. I picked the first one mainly because I don't like the music. Even though if it hadn't been for the fifties rock 'n rollers, we wouldn't be where we are now.

I like 50s and some early 60s music (the stuff that still sounded like 50s tunes), like "In The Still Of The Night", "Twilight Time", "Stand By Me", etc.

As someone else said, the "hippie" stuff of the 60s, early 70s does nothing for me.

Disco is alright. Some disco tunes I like..."Stayin' Alive", "Night Fever", "Heart Of Glass", "Super Trouper", etc.

Of course 1978-1985 was tops. What a time to be a music fan!

I voted 1986-1994 to be the worst, not necessarily because there wasn't good music being made. It's just that New Wave was declining in popularity and the "alternative" styles of U2, REM, etc were gaining ground. Then the grunge crap hit. The early 90s did have a lot of House and EuroHouse music on the charts, which has a lot of synths, etc. I liked Technotronic, 2 Unlimited, C&C Music Factory, Captain Hollywood, Snap, that sort of stuff.

1996 brought more bad music, including my nominee for WORST SONG OF ALL TIME, "Eat My Brain", by The Odds. Much worse than the WORST SONG OF THE 80s, "Walking On Sunshine", by Katrina & the Waves.

The late 90s did have a lot of boy/girl bands, but after the grunge era I was glad (GLAD, I say) to hear Backstreet Boys and Hanson. I'd rather listen to Spice Girls ALL DAY instead of ten minutes of Pearl Jam or Nirvana. I'll take and hour of N*Sync over an hour of Stone Temple Pilots. At least the pop stuff had some good beats and a dose of synth. It was like a breath of fresh air after the "Seattle" crap.

Today's music is so-so. Most of the bands I like are obscure Canadian alt-pop acts like Universal Honey, or obscure Canadian art-pop bands like Wild Strawberries. The top-40 is full of gangsta rap and shmaltzy R&B. But this too shall pass.

Anyway, I'm rambling.
