I beg to differ. There's been a glut in the music scene since '86 and it's been getting progressively worse up to now. This isn't something that should be even debated as this place is called The New Wave Outpost, meaning most everyone here likes the music of that time period above all else. There's a lot of stuff I like that is coming out nowadays and that came out in the 90s, but nowhere near in the amounts of great music that came out in 1955-1984 time periods. Back then, it wasn't just about quality, but quantity. It's pretty rare nowadays for kids to buy the album, instead choosing to dupe it onto mp3 and iPods. Besides, I remember when top 40 and eMpTyV didn't suck as much as they do now and radio was somewhat reliable on playing good shit, unlike the late 90s and early 2000s. I remember staying up 'til late at night to catch Friday Night Videos and NightFlight as well; reading music magazines that featured music I liked and wanted to hear about. All of that has been slowly phased out with trash and mediocrity for the most part. Of course, there are gonna be the flukes, the exceptions to the status quo, but I'll be damned if you're gonna tell me junk like Be Born Beton, The Killers, and Franz are better than music of days past. If everything that is good is supposedly "under the radar" then what's the use of discussing stuff that nobody except the priviledged few know about? Why not discuss things on the level that everyone knows about? I mean the majority of people aren't gonna hear some of this good, under the radar music you talk about. Let's talk about what they're actually listening to.
