Everytime I hear an interview, I always like to find out what bands influence our 80's New Wave bands. I often hear the following bands mentioned a lot. Do you guys agree and what are some others that you have heard?

David Bowie
Kraftwerk
Pink Floyd
The Beatles

I have read these bands/artists were also influences to new wave:

King Crimson
Silver Apples
Can
Hawkwind
Jonathan Richman
Alex Chilton
George Clinton

Definitely Bowie and Kraftwerk, they got mentioned all the time. The Beatles are pretty universal, they cross genres and seem to influence everybody (as weel they should, nobody like 'em).

T-Rex got a few mentions back in the day too. Adam Ant even nar

Duran Duran always said they wanted to combine Chic and The Sex Pistols.

Well-here's an influence even though it's not a band per se-The original Nuggets compilation on Elektra in 1972-rereleased on sire in 1978-you can hear echoes of these bands in a lot of 80s music

The doors! Great front man that alot of people tried to be like. Billy Idol did LA woman, the cure did Hello I love you.....

Ray Manzarek produced both X and Echo And The Bunnymen. I love The Doors. Always thought they were "tongue in cheek" and the interviews I've heard with Jim Morrison have been hysterical.
