Someone in the Japan thread mentioned Mick Karn, and I was re-reminded of what an incredible bass player he is. His brillant (un) fret work made much of Japan's (and Dalis Car's etc) sound possible. Which begs the question: Who do you think were/are the outstanding technical or imagnative bass players in NW?
I list off the top of my head:
Mick Karn
Mark King (Level 42)
Tony Butler (Big Country)
Nigel Ross-Scott (Re-Flex)
Mike Mills (R.E.M.)
John Taylor (Duran Duran)
Simon Gallup (The Cure)
David Steele (English Beat/FYC)
Graham Maby (Joe Jackson Band)
Mark Lickley (ABC bassist on The Lexicon of Love)
David J (Love and Rockets)
Honorable mention: Les Claypool--I know not NW, but Damn what a bass player
Others I've forgotten?
