** NWO 80 Top Album Lists - The next NWO lists**

Okay much like the Top 500 NWO songs this is for ALBUMS. Basically any albums included should be up to '89 (including late 70's). Also DO NOT include compilations or "best of's".

Please be specific when it comes to Titles ( [:(] and use Rank-Artist-Album on your lists as it will make fit my spreadsheet much easier!! [:(]).

So here's how the voting will work. You can vote UP to
50 albums, (UP TO 1989)
but no compilations or "best of's" [}:)]

First 10 albums gets 5 points, second 10 get 4 points, third 10(21-30) get 3 points, and the last 20 (31-50) get 2 points each. If you can't find 80 albums then post what you have. New Wave will be the dominant category but feel free to post what you liked from the 80's (Pop, hip-hop). If it's early 70's then its gotta be New Wave or Punk (not classic rock, disco, etc)

If you do vote more than 50 (only up to 80 albums please) then albums 51-80 will get 1 point each. Do this ONLY if you can't condense your list to 50. [xx(]

Feel free to edit any lists until I've given a deadline. As I've said I will tabulate in a month or two so you have some time. [^]

We could do 40 best of's and 10 comps if you want. 20 may be a bit much. I'll let majority opinion rule though. If you got an opinion to make the list that much better please let me know it now. [:D]

I'd be happy with no comps or best ofs. "A great album" means a few things to me - whether it's about a time or place, a meaning it had to me, lyrics that were significant, a place in culture, etc.. Mostly it's about artists making a cohesive statement - whereas a "best of" - it's about popularity. I think the spirit of "top albums" lies in original releases, statements, etc.

But hey, we all have the option of not including best of's and comps if we want!

Agreed. A great album is not just a collection of good songs, but a work of art in and of itself. My vote is just for albums this time around, but of course, I'm a noob here, so I go with the veterans

Sorry to be a bit slow but I'm just an amateur here and want to be clear on the rules. [:D] I know I won't be listing my many "Just Can't Get Enough" compilations here but could I get a bit more definition on what counts as a comp? So what would be the answer to the above? How about the Cure's "Japanese Whispers," which I believe was a collection of singles that weren't released on other albums?

Ok that's two albums in question; Smiths-Hatful of Hollow and Cure-Japanese Whispers. Smiths-Hatful of Hollow "is a collection of singles, many recorded live for various radio shows. It does feature 2 new songs."

Japanese Whispers "was the 1983 singles collection featuring the 7 inch versions of three singles ('Let's Go To Bed', 'The Walk' & 'The Love Cats') and five of the B-sides from these singles."

While we are at it, Depeche Mode - People are People "first came out in 1984, it was just a compilation of a few earlier songs on previous albums, several b-sides from earlier singles, and two new songs." Also not an album.

All of these are collections rather than albums. You cannot have them on your lists. [xx(] Any other LP's in question?

By the way I'm allowing The Cure - Boys Don't Cry as it was a "re-packaging for the American market of The Cure's European only debut album Three Imaginary Boys". [|)]

Those are collections and not albums I'm afraid. Those last 2 are post 89. 1990 is a no no.
