This weeks volumes are one with covers and a regular.
First a volume with eighties covers of well-known songs from the twenties, thirties, fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties.

SSQ – Fire

Originally written by Jimi Hendrix and released on the debut album Are You Experienced by The Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1967. SSQ recorded the track as a b-side for the 1983 single Synthecide.

16 Bit ft. Eddie Hind – (ina) Gadda-Da-Vida

Originally written by Doug Ingle for the debut album In-A-Gada-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly from 1968. The original had a duration of 17:05 minutes. 16 Bit released the track as a single in 1987.

Thrashing Doves – Sympathy For The Devil (live)

Yet another cover of the famous Rolling Stones song, which originally was released as a single in 1968 and is the openings track of the album Beggars Banquet. The live version of the Thrashing Doves is featured on the single Je$u$ On The Payroll from 1987.

Fiction Groove – Family Affair

Friction Groove’s 1985 cover version of the Sly & The Family Stone hit from 1971.

7 Seconds – 99 Red Balloons

Original released by Nena in 1983, which became a huge worldwide hit in German and English. 7 Seconds covered the track for their 1985 album Walk Together, Rock Together.

Humania – Can’t Stay Long

A great cover version of the Ultravox song I Can’t Stay Long, written by Chris Allen (Chris Cross), Dennis Leigh (John Foxx) and Warren Cann, from the 1978 album Systems Of Romance. Systems Of Romance was the last album with John Foxx on vocals. Humania was a project of Billy Currie and former Ultravox guitarist Robin Simon. The album of the band was posthumous released in 2006, although recorded in 1989.

Natasha – iko Iko

Yet another cover version of this iconic song of The Dixie Cups, originally released in 1962. The version of Natasha dates from 1982, the same year The Belle Stars covered the song.

The Time Machine – Dear Prudence

Cover version of the Beatles song from 1968. The original is featured on the album The Beatles. The Time Machine was featured with this song on the compilation album From The House Of Lords from 1987.

Kevin Dunn And The Regiment Of Women - Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Extra track on the DB Recs pressing of The Judgement Of Paris album from 1981. The original was written by E.Y. Harburg, real name Isidore Hochberg, and Harold Arlen, real name Hyman Arluck for the musical fantasy film The Wizard Of Oz and dates back to 1939. In that year, including the movie version of Judy Garland, Twelve versions of this song were released.

Mathilde Santing – Behind A Painted Smile

Written by Ivy Hunter and Beatrice Verdi the song was released as a single in 1969 by The Isley Brothers. Strange enough the song is not featured on one of the three albums The Isley Brothers released in 1969, but already appeared on the 1967 album Soul On The Rocks. Mathilde recorded the song for her self-titled debut album in 1982, and it was also released as a single.

Sandie Shaw - Hand In Glove

Originally a song of The Smiths written by Morrisey and Jim Marr for their debut self-titled album from 1984. After a recording session with The Smiths minus Morissey, beside Hand In Glove the b-side I Don’t Owe You Anything was recorded as well, the Sandie Shaw single was released in 1984. The session was released as b-side of the second limited edition cd-single There Is A Light That Never Goes Out from 1992 with bonus track Jeanne.

Romeo - Marina (deutsch-iltalienisch lp version)

A German/Italien version of the well known song by Rocco Granata, originally released in 1959. It was a single for Romeo in 1982.

The Jesus And The Mary Chain - Surfin' USA

Originally written by Chuck Berry and firstly released in 1963 on the albums Chuck Berry On Stage and the Beach Boys album Surfin’ USA. The same year it became a huge hit for The Beach Boys.

Messerschmitt - Hold On I'm Coming

Written by David Porter & Isaac Hayes for Sam & Dave who had a hugh hit with the song in 1966. The Messerschmitt version was released as a promo single in 1980 and is featured on their second album Face Lift.

Klaus Nomi - You Don't Own Me

Written by David White and John Madara for Lesley Gore who had a hit with her single in 1963. Klaus Nomi released it as a single in 1981 and it is featured on his self-titled debut album from the same year.

Max Greger - Major Tom

A mostly instrumental cover version of the Peter Schilling song from 1982.

Famous Names – You’re The Cream In My Coffee

This Annette Hanshaw cover was written by Buddy G. De Sylva, Lew Brown, and Ray Henderson and released as a 10” 78 RPM single in 1928. This version of the Famous Names, formerly known as Writz, is from the 1983 compilation Curious Collection.

Mirage – Lila Lily (single version)

An in German re-written version of the Depeche Mode song New Life from 1981.

The Pinups - Wild Thing

Cover version from The Troggs song from 1966. It was a single for the Pinups in 1980 and is also featured on their self-titled debut album from the same year.

Danny Tate - Love Potion

Love Potion Number 9 was a hit for The Clovers in 1959. Danny Tate covered the track on his 1984 album Sex Will Sell.

Pleasure League - Being Boiled (the voice mix)

The Human League cover, originally released in 1978. Pleasure League covered the track eight years later. It was their only release.

Whoa there! I'm sure just an accidental oversight on your part, but "Dear Prudence" is a cover of a BEATLES song!
