The best Damned album?

Any Damned fans out there?

I wasn't a huge fan until I was blown away by a 12" of Grimly Fiendish in 1985. I then worked backwards through their catalogue, which was an interesting way to discover the band since the music gets rawer the earlier you go.

Through their extremes from punk to goth, I think 1980's Black Album is the Damned's finest moment. At this point of the Damned's life, you're left wondering is it still punk? Is it rock? Is it goth? Whatever it is, it is brilliant.

The "Damned But Not Forgotten" collection is my favorite. It captures everything I love about the band...plus, I think it was my introduction to them, 20-some odd years ago. Strawberries is a close second.

Phantasmagoria. Even though the lifers think it was a crappy sellout album, it is the best front to back. It's tough to go without Cpt. Sensible, but this album makes it easy to do.

I'll throw my hat in with Machien Gun Etiquette as well. Smash It Up and Love Song alone can carry that album.

For me it is a toss up between their amazing seminal first release "Damned Damned Damned" and "Machine Gun Etiquette". Both are personal favorites.

I love Machine Gun Etiquette, but I haven't really heard any of their other albums (in their entirety), so I guess my vote doesn't really mean anything... [:)]

While I really like the earlier albums, I just think the Black Album is much too over-looked. I love that album. As a kid I saved and saved and bought the British import version of it - it's great. The songs are REALLY GOOD.

Gotta pick "Damned Damned Damned" Great cover, great songs. "Machine Gun Etiquette" is pretty good as well. Good compilation is "The Light at the End of the Tunnel" or "Smash It Up: The Anthology"
