You should check out the Midnight Express soundtrack by Giorgio Moroder for which he won an Academy Award. Really good stuff. Along with Kraftwerk, Moroder is one of the most influential musicians in regards to electronic music. Even if you're not a big fan of disco and/or Donna Summer, Moroder's songs are rather excellent. He also wrote Call Me for Blondie.

He seemed like such a humble man in person. Really very "aw shucks" about his contribution to the genre.

I thought Keith Forsey produced the Rebel Yell album for Billy Idol?

Giorgio Moroder had a great song around 1977 called "From Here to Enternity" which I could put up on the Hub if anyone's interested.

I bought a bunch of his albums a couple of years ago - I liked them well enough, although the Giorgio & Chris lp was just awful. I think Hip-O-Select has reissued some on cd. I think my favorite track of his is from Donna Summer - Now I Need You from the Once Upon a Time lp -

There was some pretty cool disco stuff in the same vein as Giorgio, Cerrone's Supernature was just awesome (and I believe that Lene Lovich worked on the album.) I also liked Disco Circus's Over & Over - a nice bridge between disco & the synth stuff from later.

Okay, I'm gonna have to run out and buy some Moroder. I completely forgotten about "I Feel Love" and when I re-listened to it recently, I was blown away at how [i]timeless[/i] it is. Brilliant.

Reach Out by Giorgio Moroder with Paul Engeman is one of my faves. It only reached #81 on the Billboard Charts in 1984, but it's like they always say.. the best songs are the ones that aren't hits [:)]

I've got lots of random Moroder mp3's scattered around, I absolutely love him. I think "Together in Electric Dreams" came out of that Phillip Oakeley & Giorgio Moroder deal, that's a great song.

If you wanna talk about stuff that's similar to Giorgio Moroder, how about Harold Faltermeyer? Less vocals, but still some great 80's music with those "strange synth noises" Frayo is talking about. He did sountracks galore (like Moroder did.)

Didn't Geogio Moroder co wrote with David Sylvain the immortal Japan Disco/Rock classic Life in Tokyo?

Didn't he also do the Sound Track to Scareface?

If you like Moroder and Kraftwerk like I do. I suggest that you listen to "Metropolis" & "Spacelab" From KRAFTWERKS 1978 the Man-Machine album. Those two tracks have a Moroder sound to them.
