Hi guys, long time no see! Life has a habit of getting in the way and commanding your time, as I'm sure you all know only too well. But I try to get some compilative (compilational?) work done in spare minutes so here are the results of one of such projects of mine. Recently I suddenly took a liking to a combination once quite widespead in electonic music but now all but abandoned - synthesizers and real drums. The reason for it was, of course, the early stages of development of electonic drums when they sounded unsatisfactory for many performers, so they beefed up the sound with human-played acoustic drums. And let me tell you suddenly I found it sounds damn appealing to me! Catalysts were two - "Radio Weeps, Television Cries" by Those Attractive Magnets with those fantastically expressive (and rather loosely played) drums and "When the Machines Rock" by Tubeway Army with those wonderful analog synth sounds piling up over a primitive but assured beat. Maybe I got tired of fully synthetic sound, maybe I just want something exotic but the result is I set out to gather songs in this vein, initially for my own listening pleasure. As these things often are I decided to share the results here as I'm sure quite a few people are bound to find this kind of stuff to their liking as well.
It won't be a long series by my previous standards, as of now only seven volumes, an hour each, with maybe an eighth for leftovers and late finds. You may be surprised but it took quite a bit of effort to gather even those as this particular combination, on first sight common, is actually something of an anomaly. Usually musicians felt the need to supplement synths and drums with bass guitar and even guitars of all kinds (why?!). So, applying such strict rule in full confidence that I won't be short of "stuff", I actually got myself quite a burden. Hope I emerged victorious but there bound to be one or two songs where I may have overlooked the offending instruments. Feel free to point them out! Also, I tried to include songs and compositions with "active" drums, where they are played animatedly not just imitate drum machines. Again that was a not an inconsiderable task, but I tried my best.
That's it for now, on to the music! Hopefully you'll find the results satisfactory
