Greetings and question about past releases

Hello All --

I cannot believe I've only just discovered this site now! What an amazing resource!

As a former 80s teenager, finding this music -- especially these ultra-rare titles -- is like Christmas in August.

I have a question, however. I see that many of these wonderfull volumes have links that are only up for some days/weeks. Is there a way to get links for titles that date back several months or even years? Is there a specific policy for requesting reposts?

Again -- so happy to be here, and hoping to upload some rare-ish singles I've managed to find here in Berlin of long forgotten bands...

My perspective (without any authority)....Most of the Old School members have retired from active posting. I imagine they lurk from time to time, but don't really have time/energy to post as much as they use to. Again I imagine that Rissan keeps a fantastic weekly series up out of sheer love of the genera (for which I am eternally thankful).

Most here do short term hosting of shares via free transfer sites... It is free of course, but limited time spans because most of us are just "Average Joes" that don't have a vested interest in paying money to host things. I have posted a few things, but it is dang hard to outdo some of the rare posts other put up. Plus over the years I mostly collected a few albums and MP3s (and people today kinda snob on you for not having Flac quality). Don't let it deter you, post what you can, and let the chips fall where they may fall. I imagine people will get upset if all you post is stuff ripped from Youtube audio though.

Speaking of "snob"... well it is sorta expected for the old-school folks to not trust folks asking for stuff when they have only 1 post. You mentioned liking some stuff others offered... did you take time to thank them? It cost nothing and shows others that you care about the community when you take time to say "thanks". Want even more, post a few rarities you mentioned having. If previously posted on the forum, I imagine some of the others here may of missed it too, so it becomes a welcome re-up. I get a nice feeling when I am able to re-up a song someone asks for (even if it is just mp3 quality)... I have uploaded an mp3 and someone else has a better quality they later share (you say thank you for their upgrade).

If asking for a re-up, I imagine the best policy would be to post a request on the previous upload thread. I am not sure if it is standard policy to re-up on previous threads or to make a new one thread (probable either is fine). Mike runs the place now I believe, he has answered one of my email questions previously, so he keeps some eye on us asylum folks.

Forums have sorta struggled to stay relevant now days... Reddit/Facebook formats and private gathering places have taken their toll, not to mention the constant battle with bots that post crap 24/7. Forum seem to be a lot of trouble to upkeep, cost money to upkeep, and people aren't as friendly as they use to be. Some forums in my opinion are worth fighting to keep alive... One of the best ways is just to say "thanks" every once in a while.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. That a forum like this even exists is, to me at least, a special thing because, as you say, forums are rather "out" these days (I think the only other forum I'm part of is a Frank Zappa one), but given what the forum is about, I imagined that most of us are old to enough to remember a pre-Reddit/FB Internet where Forums ruled supreme.

I found the forum while searching for more information about a 10-disc set (digitally) I somehow got my hands on (though from where I do not remember) called "This is What I Call Minimal 80s", and I was astonished at just how much more there is of "forgotten" 80s music. Though I was able to grab 2 recently-posted compilations, I did not yet have permission to post on the forum. That was granted a few days ago, and I just wanted to say "hi" and ask about the policy regarding reposts. I shall definitely leave thanks on the posts I grabbed from, and will perhaps hold off on asking for any reposts until I've earned more trust. As for posting, I'll hold off until I determine if these things already exist in some other form.

You have all the makings of doing just fine here. Make it a habit to visit about twice a week and odds are you will not miss much (life often gets busy and you will occasionally miss things, like the rest of us). Most everything happens on the Obscure section of the forum, so it is pretty simple to just pop in here and see what is new. Sometimes it gets hard to get into the forum (bot traffic or server limiting bandwidth), just come back the next day.
