Oh, that same year, Sheena Easton also came out with her new wave song, "Machinery"

Actually, one of the coolest new wave songs by a non-new wave artist is "All You Zombies" by the Hooters.

God I love that album. [:p] I agree that its very much a New Wave style album. I was mixing the other day and went from Culture Club - Karma Chameleon into Let's Pretend We're Married into Billy Idol- Dancing With Myself and it worked PERFECTLY. There's so many songs besides the singles that are good on this album. [^]

Burning Up For Your Love (12 inch club mix) and Over and Over, both by Madonna, were great New Wave songs to dance to.

She's So Cold by the Rolling Stones was good too.

It's Still Rock an' Roll To Me - Billy Joel, was a decent pop / New Waver.

Dancing In the Dark - Springsteen, good dance song.

I was going to pipe in about the Kinks State of Confusion but someone beat me to it.
I was also fond of most Planet P Project's work-particularly the Pink World lp
707--"I Could Be Good For You" was also a classic.

I was listening to Roseanne Cash's Seven Year Ache cd the other day. It occurred to me that a few of the songs have a definite new wave influence.

I recall there was a New Wave connection within the Cash family. Roseanne was married to Rodney Crowell who wrote some great songs with a new wave edge to them Alot of his early '80's music used syths and more of a 4/4 dance beat, which was pretty unusual for country. Rodney played in Emmylou Harris' band and wrote "I don't have to Crawl" for her - another new wave influenced, syth infused track.

Roseanne's half sister was Carlene Carter who was married to Nick Lowe. I think Nick produced one of her albums which got a lot of critical praise. She also did a duet with dave Edmunds called "Baby Ride Easy."

Unfortunatly Carlene and Roseanne left the edge behind as the 80's wore on. Last I heard Carlene was doing traditional country.

To go further back, I always thought Johnny Cash could be considered a forefather to punk, and I think the Carter Family was pretty new and unique for their time too.

I used to dj at a country station & Rodney Crowell and Roseanne Cash were what saved my sanity from the usual twang and whine.

Blue Nun (pretty much backed by Rockpile) and Musical Shapes were great! And that's Carlene Carter getting hitched with Nick Lowe in the video for Cruel To Be Kind (with Dave Edmunds as the chauffeur).

Wasn't Carlene the one who,at a NYC club [maybe the Bottom Line], not knowing her parents were in the audience, uttered "It's Time to take the c[:D][:D]t out of country"?

Well, new poster, yeh, thats why I have a Kate bush song next to my name. But no i dont understand.....is this whole thread a joke? If so I didnt pick up on that. I glanced at the thread and thought we were naming "new wave" sounding songs that werent by new wave artists (despite the ridiculousness of some of the posts). Please instruct me on what the thread is actually about.

Yeah i agree with your reaction of that "dig". I'm guessing that it was because it is the "Coolest" New Wave Songs by non NW artists and you put Abracadba (dud [B)]). But the first 2 I agree completely.
