Coolest New Wave Songs from Non-New Wave Artists

Ahh, i see. I wasnt really thinking "coolest". I was thinking enjoyable non new wave new wave songs. Im not a big Steve Miller fan myself but I think that song is waaay better than anything else hes done. I also can't help but think that if The Romantics or some similar band had released that same song, it would be accepted as a huge "new wave hit"! Just my opinion.

I glanced at the thread and thought we were naming "new wave" sounding songs that werent by new wave artists (despite the ridiculousness of some of the posts). Well, it's a thread for people who don't know what new wave is. (Yes, I'm here too). Chester Cheeto's is right (once again), Mike Oldfield's 5 Miles Out is a perfect example of a non-NW artist, but still cool NW. (I like the whole LP)

Too bad you don't have a third eye, cause they'd all be blacked. (nice list, ha ha... HA) Kate Bush is tops on mine.

NW is a only one genre (in the grand scheme of things). Cool is all around for the enjoyment (Just my opinion). And you also sound (kind-of/sort-of) image conscious (but I'm sure we can still agree to disagree (on many different points)).

Thanks for the welcome. As far as being image conscious, I hope I didnt come off that way. When I turned 30 I gave that up. Thats why I admitted liking the Steve Miller song. I dont really consider anything a "guilty pleasure", because in my opinion, if its good, its good! Unless, subconsciously, thats the "image" im going for and then I [i]am[/i] image conscious. Kind of like in the movie Singles, when he tells her in a bar that he doesnt think men need to have "an act" to ask girls out and she tells him that A: he has an act and B: his act is [i]not having[/i] an act! In that case its all a terrible vicious circle. [;)]

Don't sweat it Crimsor, everyone has a diffrent definition if what New Wave is and isn't. Some people think Culture Club are new wave, and others here would rather vomit out a boulder than consider them new wave. People defend their position on one side or the other because the genre is something they (and I suspect you,) love. Regardless of that, we all get along, so welcome aboard!!!

I think we can all agree that someone like, ohhhhhh, Gino Vanelli wasn't new wave![:)]

I also like people who can get all eyes blackened (so still round with the punches). And I guess "Abracadabra" is okay (if you're into the cheesier kind of NW). I'm thinking Grunch was also right (surprizingly), when he say "Serenade" was a way kooler Steve Miller NW song. (it kicks) (I'm not sure he used those exact words).

Village People released an LP called "Renaissance" in 1981, if you never heard it try to download the song "Food Fight" right now, that song is great Punky-New Wave and should be featured on one of those KilledByDeath compilation of punk rarities.
