I always steered clear of mainstream pop. So, whenever Duran Duran would come on the radio, I'd immediately switch it. Now, I think Duran are pretty cool, and I think that they were very clever with their marketing. Such businessmen!

I was always really put off by Devo. I'm still not a huge fan of them, but I've found a few songs that I like a lot. Gates of Steel has become a true favorite of mine.

A few years ago you wouldn't have gotton me near them.

This has happened to me on more bands than I could name in one post, mostly because I wasn't even a new waver when new wave was ... well ... new! Probably the biggest one for me was U2 - HATED those guys while everyone else I knew would wait in line all weekend for a wristband to buy their concert tickets. Oddly I started to get into them when their Zooropa album came out (the one that most U2 fans hate!).

I didn't really care much for The Pixies but back in the 80s but I didn't really get the opportunity to hear much of their stuff then. Now with internet radio, I've heard much more of their music and really like them. I'd also have to say the same thing for The Damned. Although I really didn't dislike The Damned back in the 80s, I just hadn't heard enough of their music to become a fan.

The Jam. I never really even heard their material (apart from one or two radio hits) until like, the late nineties. Now I really dig them.

Well, I liked most NW music back then, and still do. It's other types of music I think I've come to appreciate more since then. Real jazz, opera (which I used to detest), and classical. I still hate country though. I've also grown to hate rap as it's transformed from a melody with a rap format to a pure rap and beats format (or, rap and lifted music samples format). I've also grown out of a lot of crappy non NW pop I used to like (anyone interested in a half dozen Billy Joel albums?)

I absolutley detested Icehouse back in the day. I only became familiar with them with "Electric Blue" and "Crazy". I was so appalled at the mullet sported by Iva Davies (yes, even then!) that I dismissed them as merely some dumb Aussie schmaltz-pop band. Only later did I discover their AWESOME earlier work, and I love it.....still hate those two later songs though.

I heard "Electric Blue" on the radio yesterday, and I had to shudder when thinking about the brilliance of "Hey Little Girl" and "No Promises."

Hall & Oates. I used to loathe them back in the day, And now, I just bought their "best of".

For me, I couldn't listen to anything experimental like D.A.F., Einsturzende Neubauten, Cabaret Voltaire, etc. They were way too left field and atonal for my taste (and it's pretty top 40 to begin with). Now I realise this is the good stuff... like a couple of stiff drinks[8D]

now I like a little of everything, I'll listen to jazz, opera, some country, some rap, most old school rap, some dance music , some pop, Im still a bit picky but Ive calmed down

Yes Im a huge Jam fan but I also love Barry Manilow, Seven Seconds, Lyle Lovett, charlie Parker, Buddy Guy, James Brown, China Crisis, Squirrel Nutt Zippers, Nat King Cole, Elvis(costello & Presley) Little anthony and the Imperials, Stylistics, Decendents, Bauhaus, Specials ................(hopefully you get my drift)[:D]
