Howard Jones VS Thomas Dolby

Thomas Dolby by a wide, wide, wide margin.

He had some truly stellar tracks: One of Our Submarines, in particular. Dissidents, The Flat Earth, Flying North... just to name a few.

Howard Jones was, in my opinion, fairly bland in comparison. Thomas Dolby was much edgier and far more interesting.

don't get me wrong, i like thomas, but i prefer howard. i guess it's because i'm use to hearing more howard jones song than thomad dolby.[:D] i hope you don't think i'm gay. [:D][:D]

Howard Jones should win. Thomas Dolby only had the one hit.

The Golden Age Of Wireless is a classic album. Dolby's use of electronics moved way beyond the simple(although catchy) synth work of Howard Jones. Dolby was a much more artistic song writer and his work evolved (not always to my liking) but he continued to experiment, where Howard seemed to fall into the commercialization trap.

I vote Thomas Dolby simply because I am such a fan of The Camera Club [:)]

Dolby all the way. His best stuff - She Blinded Me, Submarines, Europa, Airwaves, Windpower, hell, the whole Golden Age album, is way better than anything HoJo ever did. In fact it's way better than anything almost anyone ever did. I think of Howard Jones as pleasant, mildly new-wavish pop which is not a bad thing, but not as good as Dolby's best.

I like them both, but I like Dolby much better. Also I don't own any Jones records... I have a bunch of Dolby, so I guess that's the answer!

Thomas Dolby is more new wave...while Hojo is more synth pop.

I'd have to say Hojo, simply because I listen to him more.

You are correct Frayo - Dolby is more New Wave and HOJO is more synthpop. Dolby also came along a couple of years before HoJo. Dolby's EP's came out in '81 or '82 and before that played with Bruce Wooley and the Camera Club. If I remember correctly, he also played keyboards on Foreigner - 4 . I would consider Dolby a New Wave pioneer as well as a musical genius. While I like HoJo, I really view him as more of a pop artist with the Human's Lib Lp being his best work. What is Love? IMO is his best tune.
