Any thoughts on this band. Don't know much about them but I love their hits (Sit Down, Laid, She's a Star). Interesting to read on AMG that they were dubbed "the next Smiths".

There was a period between 86-93 that I purchased everthing they released, I cooled on them after that. My favorites James releases are "Stutter", "Strip-Mine" and "Laid".

Yes to all that, including cooling and forgetting about them for years. I'd add "Born of Frustration"...not saying anything obscure of course.

Their final album "Pleased To Meet You" was pretty good as well. They should have been big here. "Millionaires" was great. But, it wasn't even released here in the States.

[i]Laid[/i] was probably their most mainstream album. I think three of the songs from it got heavy rotation on MTV, back when it was still alright and aired music that didn't suck all the time.

I didn't know anything about these guys. They were hard to find, wherever I was. But I loved "Break Down the Government Walls" (I don't know if that's the correct title), and "Ya Ho". I forgot all about "Born of Frustration"--I don't remember it, and now

Believe it or not I find James' "Wah Wah" extremely interesting.
It's acollection of songs written & played by James & Brian Eno and recorded during the "Laid" sessions. Quite tasty.
