Spandau Ballet - Gold

Not knowing much about Spandau Ballet, apart from the handful of songs which got played on KROQ, I'd take Gold over True any day of the week. The man with the suit and the face, to be sure.

Spandau Ballet...I liked Paint Me Down a lot. I couldn't get into the slick crooner thing with Gold or True. I was really envious of their hair though.

Gold is not a bad song, but not a great one either. Spandau definitely did better (To Cut a Long Story Short, She Loved Like Diamonds, etc.) It's still better than anything on the top 40 charts in this day and age.

I can honestly say that I've never heard it.

I wouldn't call it crap, but I doubt it's going to routinely end up on my play rotation.

I think that it was an okay album if you like top 40 New Wave,but I really prefer the more unusual style of New Wave and alot less of the top 40 commercial sound and style of New Wave,and besides that my favorite Spandau albums were really their first two.However their last two albums I thought were alot better than the last two before those,meaning both True and Parade.

I know this sounds weird, but sometimes Tony Hadley reminds me too much of Anson Williams when he sang as Potsie on "Happy Days." He's trying to croon, and alot of Spandau's stuff creates this image of a bunch of guys wearing tuxes and playing "polite" pop tunes at some debutante ball @ a country club.

After listening to 1985's Spandau Ballet's "The Collection", I have to confess that I find most of their early stuff to be tuneless boneheaded disco anthems. [:D]

I actually prefer the later stuff now (as cheesy as it is).

Well I have the entire Spandau Catalogue (6 albums, singles & 12" collection on CD) & I love it all, except maybe a few experimental clunkers from the first 2 albums.

Just because a band changes from New Wave doesn't mean you need to dismiss them.
And by the way DD wasn't New Wave after "7 & The Ragged Tiger".
And poor Adam Ant made the sappy "Wonderful"

I agree 100% with Wolverine (aside from the hair remark) but I'd like to add Chant #5 (Don't Need This Pressure On) as one of all-time my favorite tunes.Their video for "Musclebound" is one of the freakingest sexy things I've ever seen. [:p] [:p] [:p]

I remember when this song was released early in 1984 in Canada. It was a follow-up to "True", a smash hit. To me, an amazing song.
