Almost New Wave, but not really !

I was a huge Geils fan in the 70's and early 80's. Saw them live sevreral times, did an awesome New Years eve concert in Providence 1 year. I still enjoy them--however--the Freeze Frame lp , for the most part, was pretty lame.

Wow pulled it out and the "weaker" tunes are just as good. Do You Remember When? is like a lost disco tune. Flamethrower is just as good as I remembered. [:D] Coming to a hub near you.

While not really New Wave,I like everyone else in here seems to,liked quite a few of their songs.But to call them New Wave would really be an injustice.Back them I remember(depending on who you talked to about this,and how well they knew what the New Wave sound sounded like) quite a few people that I talked to got so confused just what was New Wave and what wasn't.I remember some of the following artists getting linked with the New Wave movement at around the same time as the J. Geils Band did.

Steve Miller Band-Just from his Abracadabra album and the next few albums after that,alot of people felt that Steve Miller had jumped on the New Wave bandwagon at the time.Well let me tell you.Steve Miller in his best day was never New Wave and never will be.Although I was a big fan of his albums they just weren't New Wave,and i'm talking about his albums in the 80's only.

Musical Youth-I never understood why they were linked in with the New Wave movement.They were totally Reggae and Bubblegum.And why Pass The Dutchie is on one of the Rhino set's New Wave Hits Of The 80's is beyond me.

Eddie Grant-More Reggae and Funk influenced but really not New Wave.Although he did have some great songs he really wasn't New Wave.
Cheap Trick-I can definately see why New Wave fans would like their music alot.Definately more of a power pop group if anything.Although some songs by them can be interpretated as sounding like a New Wave song.Although their one album from 1982 was definately New Wave and that was their One On One album with She's Tight.

Michael Jackson-No way and never could be New Wave thank god.Next.
Huey Lewis And The News-I liked their albums as a whole,but nowhere near sounding New Wave,with those songs sung in acapella.And the ones that weren't sung in acapella still wasn't New Wave either.What Working For A Living? No way.
Ray Parker Jr.-Ah maybe just his Ghostbusters song,but that is the only one of his hits that I would ever except as sounding as a New Wave song,and I am giving Ghostbusters to him,just because it was such a great song and had a great synthesizer in it.If for no other reason at all.
Billy Ocean-Nope.Why is it just because an artist in the 80's had a few dance hits,this automatically and assumes that they were New Wave? Or was a part of that movement? This is what all the confusion was back at that time,with people who did not know the difference.
