Yes, Voices Carry is partly about domestic abuse but really more about her control freak partner who she rejects at the end of the song...or the video at least, which clarifies things a lot.
Indestructable like gold not in the physical sense but rather in indomitable spirit. So even apparent wimps have got the power to know they're indestructable...just always believe in your soul.
That church...yes, it's the Republicans. We seem to not only need some new Lords but a New Church as well.
The right to party is not a birthright. You have to fight for your right to party. But there's no denying that we want to be free...we wanna be free to do what we want to do...and we want to get loaded...and we wanna have a good time...and that's what wer'e gonna do...we're gonna have a good time...we're gonna have a party!
Dutchie is not a bong but rather a joint, a subtle and somewhat unimportant distinction. The term is derived from Dutch cigars. It is typical for the Carib peoples, and some friends of mine too, to roll big fat ones and utter comment such as "let's spark up a Dutchie bra." [:D]

I always envisioned Voices Carry about someone who is involved with Aimee, and he doesn't want anyone to know. Maybe the braid/tail thing she had scared potential in-laws.

"cyclone ranger" is actually "psyched Lone Ranger". No way would I have determined this myself but found out through various websites.

"Pass The Dutchie" was a cover of "Pass The Kutchie" by the Mighty Diamonds. A kutchie is indeed a bong. Musical Youth wanted to sanitize it for more tender radio listeners.

Can you get a bypass with a Heart of Glass?
What are the dues for the Union of the Snake? Do they have a good healthcare plan?
If you have Love on your Side can a doctor remove it? If so, is it covered under the Union of the Snake's health plan?

Originally it was derived from "Dutch Oven" and is a large pot for cooking food. I remember asking some Jamaicans I knew at the time when the Musical Youth song came out, and they said it was a food bowl.
But Musical Youth cleaned it up... it has many meanings!
Since then it's a joint, but they say "splif" or in the case of a cigar a "blunt"....
