I think Duran Duran never had it to lose it. I've never heard one consistent album from them. Even their first one is pretty flaccid. A few good singles and then bucketloads of truly horrid filler. They were a Greatest Hits album waiting to happen (and a very good Greatest Hits album at that).

Talk Talk? As much as I like the first couple of albums, they didn't really start to get interesting until The Colour Of Spring. Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock have to be the most overlooked albums ever put out. Give them the chance - It just takes a few listens. Of course, if you just want boring uninspired synthpop crap, don't bother.

Thanks to CBS and Mark Burnett for reminding me (in the most distasteful way possible) that INXS is, yes, still together... even though the band really should have "disappear"ed after "X." But certainly, to not throw in the towel after 1997 -- it's almost like they want to be pitied.

I think you've hit many of these bands at their high points. Put I'll have to disagree with you some of them "losing it Big time".

I think Missing Person's Rhyme and Reason is actually superior to Spring Session M

Zillionaire and Alphapbet City also have some good tracks on them

Rio was DD's masterpiece, but Seven and the Ragged Tiger have a few good songs on them. So does Notorious and Big Thing. Hell even the Wedding album has Too LAte Marlene and Too Much information.

Perhaps it was at the point you mention in general that they Jumped the shark, but in some cases it was several albums before they lost it completely

"Ordinary World" I think is Duran Duran's best song, A masterpiece.

I was a big-time Duranimal for their 1st 3 albums. Loved them all. In 1986, i went to college and DD just lost their magic, for me. I never got into their new material at all. It took a radically different direction--all those chunky funky horns--and I thought that, to some degree, they'd "lost it".

However, I also thought "kudos to them" for keeping it up--DD, though they lost some members along the way--kept on going. I was living overseas when "Ordinary World" and "Come Udone" came out, and those were awesome songs. More adult-lite-contemporary, perhaps, but VERY cool nonetheless.

And then all 5 original members reunited in 2003, did a small-venue tour which was HOT, and I kind of got back into them again. The original 5 guys have a lot of chemistry together, and it shows. I thin k that's why they lost their "magic" in '86, b/c the Taylors had gone.

However, nothing approaches their 1st 3 albums for sheer creativity, fun, and earnest dance grooves.I still have those on regular rotation at the KYYX household.

I cant offer a valid Talk Talk opinion. I just saw that they were mentioned in the list.

because Talk Talk went back to the sound they wanted to create in the first place...before they were mislabeled as new wave in the first place.

Then they went out of style...and then went really experimental. My opinion isnt that valid...seeing that I love Talk Talk and own everything they've ever put to paper. I love those guys. They didnt go wrong up until 1994... Then after that they took out their rhythm and the songs were jsut too ambient and too long and too experimental...to the point where it sounded like the guys had fallen asleep while the music machines were recording...meaning their sound came from only them moving aroundd as they slept.

I lost interest in Thompson Twins the second I heard Hold Me Now. I tried, really I did, to listen to their stuff, but I think maybe two of their songs past this era are ones which I can identify.

Also, The B-52's past Cosmic Thing: I couldn't tell you a single song since then. I felt so sad, so very sad, that Roam and Love Shack were completely overplayed--especially since they're good songs. However, I don't think The B-52's lost it; I think they got themselves mislead.

When Art of Noise did all the drum 'n' bass stuff, I lost interest and respect for them. I wanted Into Battle part III.

I agree with most of the others listed here although [i]Bouncing Off the Satellites[/i] is by far my favorite B-52's album. Actually it's one of my all-time favorite albums. I put it on my Top 50 when I submitted my albums list on another thread.

Actually my favorite Thompson Twins album is [i]Into the Gap[/i], the one with "Hold Me Now."
