i'm really surprised to see The Cure mentioned so often. "Bloodflowers" was among the best records of their career. Also, U2 has only had a couple brief weak moments ("Pop", "Rattle and Hum")- I thought their last 2 albums were phenomenal.
Alot of people think Duran Duran went downhill after Rio, but I personally think "Notorious" is the best album of their career - lithe and funky and original - and their most recent, "Astronaut", was fantastic.
I also think REM continues to do great work.
Personally, I would go with The Cult after "Love" (although "Sonic Temple" did have some good things), The Fixx after "Phantoms", and Thomas Dolby after "The Flat Earth" - - those off the top of my head.
