Soulseek for trading rare NW stuff !!!

Postby react010 » Thu Jul 21, 2005 3:00 am

I've being using Soulseek for ages now as it has a lot of alternative & electronic music (vids) on their network, and it is'nt as overcrowded and commercial as the other P2P programs (and it's totally spyware free). You just install the program
(( http://files.slsknet.org/slsk156c.exe )) start it up, select your Share & Incoming folders in the 'File Sharing' tab first, and then search for your fav artists in the 'Search Files' tab.
The results that come up in black have no que's, and usually come in straight away, the results that are greyed out do have que's.
For video's just typ 'mpg' or 'avi' behind the artist, for example: landscape mpg.
And if you don't like people leeching your rare vid's or music, just replace '1' with '0' in the 'Max U/L' box. Then when you want to trade (or start someone) replace the '0' with a '1' again.
(on Soulseek i have the same nick as in here).
Happy trading ya'll !!

Well you can also have your share settings so that only people on your friends list can look at your collection and download. Only big problem I've seen with Soulseek is sometimes you just CAN'T connect to other users (for no apparent reason).

I'd recommend either setting up a NWO room to meet at or posting ss names (at least temporarily) so people can add you to their friend list.

Soulseek used to be much better before people started thinking they owned the songs they had listed. Reading some of the user's profiles, you would think they were doling out bars of gold. Things like:

"If I don't like how your files are arranged...YOUR BANNED!"

and

"You must ask first before you download, if you don't I will ban your ass"

Yeah, Soulseek is chock full of people who use it as their one and only power trip. I'm on it less and less, and coincidentally there seems to be less and less obscure stuff on it. That was it's claim to fame.

The room idea is good, but the hub already accomplishes what could be done on soulseek.

Yeah, Soulseek is chock full of people who use it as their one and only power trip[/quote]I totally sympathize with you eight6, I got banned once because I had "less than 500 files" (It's quality that matters!) But stupid divas like that only end up getting banned themselves [:p] Another sure way of getting banned is the "No files shared" symptom.

Luckily these people are not too common in my experience, and I'm still on it quite often.

LOL, I once got banned by a guy for the following reasons, my files are tagged with the bit rate (i.e. Rock Lobster - 128k), he doesn't like that, and I didn't show a diverse enough range of musical interests (WTF!) Was he joking?, I don't know, but he banned me.
