Hi, I'm new

I'd like to bid my hellos to this great site.

I'm an 18-year old Hispanic attending Florida International University from Miami, FL, and I absolutely love New Wave.

My adoration of '80s music dates back a couple of years. My tale is long and convoluted, but here goes nothing:

Since my preteen years, I had been a fan of the James Bond movies, and, accordingly, a fan of their respective songs. Naturally, the songs by Duran Duran and a-ha were favorites of mine. However, I did not pursue my interest feverishly, that is, until I was watching VH1 around early '03. They were running one of their "Where Are They Now" programs of yore, and they were discussing Bunty from the "Take On Me" video. Needless to say, I was familiar with "Take On Me," as is almost everybody I know, something that has always acted as a thorn in my side, seeing as how a-ha has a plethora of insatiable material to offer to the naive U.S. public, but I digress. Anyway, they mentioned the continuation of the ageless video love in "The Sun Always Shines On TV," so I honed in on that tidbit by downloading the video. Suffice it to say, I was enthralled; I became an overnight fan of a-ha. From there, I chased down my interest in Duran Duran (so much so, in fact, that my brother, 13, who also enjoys all things '80s, and I went to their concert here in South Florida; yeah, we were the youngest ones there without parents).

And that is how I took my first step into a larger world, folks.

Artists whose music I enjoy: a-ha, Duran Duran, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, The Police, Naked Eyes, Eurhytmics, Culture Club, Spandau Ballet, Human League, Taco, Falco, Real Life, Soft Cell, When In Rome, Baltimora, U2, Ultravox, A Flock of Seagulls, The Cure, Animotion, B-52s, David Bowie, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, INXS, and others whose works escape me at the moment.

EDIT: D'oh! How could I forget one of my all-time favorite bands--Tears For Fears?! I could have SWORN I had included it right after Duran Duran. This is quite careless on my behalf.

I saw the thread about "Take On Me" and Family Guy--one of my favorite shows (I'm even wearing a Chris Griffin shirt as we speak, one that has him proclaiming his animosity towards school)--and so I decided to link to the GIF file and actual video for all of you fine people so that you can relive the glorificent cut-away:

I see your preference list is pretty much in line with mine (xcept for Taco[B)])

As for TV, I'm not big on current shows outside of adult dramas in the 10-11pm timeslot.

I do watch Family Guy from time to time and know that AD is a pretty well received show (though not a strong ratings performer)

Anyway, make sure to check out ALL the discussion threads to fully take in what this place has to offer.
