Love's Forever Changes is one of the greatest albums in the history of rock and roll. The Damned's cover is faithful, and a rare animal in that is actually a good cover version, but I think Vanian himself would think your nuts for making such a claim.

No offense intended [:I]. Just one man's opinion. Certainly looking at the number of acts that have covered "Alone Again Or" it must have influenced a lot of musicians. I wonder if, when a band covers a fav of theirs or a large influence on their sound, they ever think their version is better than the original...[?]

[:I]Otter had told me The Damned covered that song, and Love recorded it in 1967 in an old post. I had no idea there was another version of it out. He said it sounds almost the same. I never heard the original, but I love Alone again or anyway.

I've always thought New Order- Your Silent Face, Duran Duran- The Chauffer, and the Cure - Push were terribly underrated. I'd also give Red Rockers - China a big nod too.

What about China Crisis' material, particularly "working with fire and stee", "Tragedy and mystery" and "king in a catholic style". Why those didn't get more popular is beyond me.

1) "Doot-Doot" - Freur
This, to me, is THE best song of the new wave era. Way ahead of its time, and I never get tired of it.

2) "House of Stone" - The Roaring Boys
Great Roxy Music rip-off. Simply a beautiful song.

I'll have to agree with Marie and NuWaveRx. I've tried to like Love's Forever Changes, based on all I've read about it being such a classic, influential album (I've even heard it called "the most perfect album"--who are these people? [:)]), but I can't stand it. Too saccharine. I'll take The Damned's version anyday!

I agree, I Will Dare deserved more play. Actually, the entire album Let It Be is brilliant, and I still keep it in heavy rotation.

Watusi Rodeo and Litany by Guadalcanal Diary should've gotten more exposure, too. In 1987 my husband got that album on cassette as a give-away at a promotional event for a radio station--he had never heard of them and was about to throw it away. I quickly set him straight.

The original 1982 issue of 'Valerie' by Steve Winwood. It was very popular here in Canada, but it didn't make waves in America until the remix in 1987. The original is just so much better
