New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

I've been raised to speak out against musical injustices wherever I see them. We've done so here against country-western, rap, metal and teen pop, but you want to draw an arbitrary line at Coldplay? I'm sorry, I can't do that and go against everything that our founding Fathers stood for! [:o)]

Ummm ... unless I missed something totally obvious, THE ORIGINAL POSTER asked for opinions so neither the lovers or haters are out of line posting in this thread. Sure, I'll admit it's enjoyable to bash Coldplay and even if the thread was titled "Coldplay lovers only, post here" I'd have bashed them. The only thing that would give me more enjoyment than calling their shit music shit would be a world with no Coldplay to bash. It may offend you that people bash them. But it offends me more to have to be subjected to crap because the sheeple have been brainwashed into thinking it's cool to like them.

I totally agree that Nickelback and Staind suck as much as Coldplay do.

I don't like their music. Except for "Clocks"...that was a cool song, quite original-sounding (which I can respect).

Agreed. If that Coldplay review is what I think it is -- the one in the Live 8 section of Wreckless Eric's site -- then that is among the stupidest of critiques I've ever read. He spent more than half the time commenting on Chris Martin's ass, as if that had any relevance to his music. Admittedly, I was disappointed in the latest Coldplay album, but their first two records came out in the midst of HORRIFYING and VOMIT-INDUCING rap-rock and NU metal. Give them credit for helping to bring "alternative rock" back to its New Wave roots (Echo & the Bunnymen, U2) instead of putting on baseball caps and screaming feces into our ears. There are a million worse acts than Coldplay, who are actually introducing their love for Echo & the Bunnymen to a new generation of kids. Spare your rage for the likes of Korn and Limp Bizkit who contributed nothing to society. As for Martin being whiny, Morrissey and Robert Smith (whom I both love) made a career doing that.

I'd advise anybody who expects a reviewer to have a fairly decent I.Q. to skip on the link. If you like "Beavis & Butthead"-level commentary, enjoy. If I wrote garbage such as this for the All-Music Guide, I would've been fired immediately.

"Rage"?! You're exhibiting more rage than anyone else here. There's a few people who emoted some negative and similar commentary about some stinkin' pop group. There must be some common and valid thread there. Are you trying to invalidate our opinions? Spare me the self-righteous crap! Hating the admitted crap like rap-rock and nu metal isn't exclusive of mild dissing of Coldplay.

Better "self-righteous crap" than the verbal chicken scratch on Wreckless Eric's site. Sad that a grown man cannot articulate himself better than tossing a handful of cheap shots. I couldn't care less if you liked Coldplay or not. As I said, even I was let down by their most recent album. I'm not trying to invalidate anybody's opinions; I couldn't care less, and certainly Coldplay don't -- they're laughing their way to the bank. But I've seen Coldplay and the new New Order CD slammed much more often here than Korn or Limp Bizkit, which made going to record stores or flipping through the radio dial a living hell. Personally, I can't stomach Keane; they're Lotus Eaters plagiarists. However, bless them for helping to keep British music on the American airwaves.

Agreed, but none of us wrote the Wreckless Eric article! Much of what we said was much tamer. And you'll NEVER find me slamming New Order. [:0][:0][:0] Blashphemy!!!

And I think the non-slamming of Korn and Limp Dipshits is because it's a given! But you jumped all over our asses so much that the first time around, I neglected your completely valid argument that Coldplay was part of the movement that did indeed help usher that crap out. And OMG, don't use the "laughing all the way to the bank argument"...unless you're also patting Korn and Limp Dipshits on the back as well!

Now excuse me while I go back to worshiping British Sea Power - lyrically and musically digestable Britpop! [}:)][8D]

That's all I'm really saying. Give Coldplay credit for at least that. To me, they're heroes for it. As for people who rank on New Order, well, they should be royally flogged [8D]
