Cars may tour in 2006 without Ocasek....

Postby WoodlandParkPunk » Fri Aug 26, 2005 12:56 am

Rumors are getting stronger that the Cars may tour next year with Todd Rundgren taking over the vocals of Orr and Ocasek. Would not be the Cars without Ocasek.

Wouldn't be The Cars without Ben Orr either.

And Rundgren just blows. Feh.

Yeah, that just sounds horrible. Shame too, I never got to see the Cars in their heyday. I think they played around here on some of the later tours, but it just wouldn't have been the same. I envy those who caught them on the "Candy-O" & "Panorama" tours.

Sounds pointless. I had Row 2 Cars tickets in '86 but the show got cancelled.

I love The Cars, saw them in '81 at St. Paul Civic Center, the sound was horrible though.

It certainly would be pointless for them to tour without Ocasek.

Was that "Shake It Up"? I thought Nick Lowe blew them off the stage.

I think so. Yeah, Nick was pretty hot that night, Cars were, well, disappointing.

I was 3rd row, off-center to the left that night. Awesome seats for a crappy show. Got an Eliot Easton guitar pick - gave it to my date.

That is so pathetic, I would put that up there with Duran Duran performing without Simon LeBon and Nick Rhodes. [:(]

I saw them twice live in the 80's:
9/3/80 The Cars with The Motels, Panorama tour, Blossom Music Center, Ohio
8/7/84 The Cars with Wang Chung, Heartbeat City tour, Blossom Music Center, Ohio

Can't figure out why Queen without Freddie Mercury is so popular. I guess Brian May has a lot of fans.

I've been hearing about this for well over a year now, as a friend of mine works for Fender and is helping the reformed Cars out with their equipment. My friend didn't say anything about Ocasek being a problem but has mentioned that Elliot Easton is "hard to deal with." I've asked him many times who will be replacing Ben Orr but he always says he doesn't know.

Having said that, my old electric now has a tuning peg from Elliot on it, thanks to my friend. [:D]
