The Rakes...

So who's heard 'em? Right now I'm listening to "Animals", and it's about the fifth song from the album that I can hear over and over...

Saw this in the store yesterday and it confused the hell out of me. Up til last week we had a local band called The Rakes, yet I didn't recognise any of the song titles on the cd.

Out of curiosity, where's "here"?

This is, of course, not unheard of. In the early 80's, there was a local band in New Brunswick, NJ called "The The". Similar confusion ensued.

Apparently, the Misfits benefitted from this sort of thing when Mercury put out a Pere Ubu record on a new vanity label that matched the name of the indie label The Misfits were running.

Next obvious question: So how did your Rakes stand up against these Rakes?

Haven't heard the "new" Rakes, the Mpls version was very power-pop with a bit of a dark edge to them. Kind of like The Only Ones without the heroin problems.

I'm not sure, but your probably talking about The Rakes, who released one of the best albums in 2005,"Capture-Release". My favourite song from the album is "work, work, work", but there are also other intersting songs with a good vocal.
