Definitive New Wave/"Modern Rock" History books?

Can anyone recommend what they'd categorize as a "definitive" New Wave history and culture, or (Classic) "Modern Rock" history and culture book? What I've found on Amazon has been less than impressive. There MUST be some books out there that do an excellent job of tracing the roots of new wave (from punk, et al) and tie-ing this history in with the culture of the world around it. That is, how was the music influenced by what was going on in the world during the late 70s and early 80s? There must be some books that address this issue quite comprehensively and accurately.

Any suggestions? Any of these books still in print, or available as "used"? Thanks.

For the roots of New Wave, try to find 'The Trouser Press Guide To New Wave Records' by Ira Robbins (Long deleted, but worth seeking out). Goerge Gimarc's 'Punk Diary 1970-79' is good, and his 'Post Punk Diary 1980-82 is closer to what you might want. 'Th

The New Music and The New Rock and Roll both by Glenn A Baker are indespensible books to have.

Anyone out there familiar with the book "New Wave Explosion"? I'd never seen/heard of it before but saw it in a used book store this past weekend. It's paperback, with text and B+W pictures, and I think the date was '81. I believe the author was Myles C

New Wave Explosion is good, but is about the first wave of Brit punk: Sex Pistols, Clash, Damned etc.
