DCFC write some nice tunes, but I agree Ben Gibbard's vocals are a tad lightweight (twee perhaps) and can become annoying in large doses. I like some of his work with The Postal Service -- "Such Great Heights" is a worthwhile tune.

yeah, mike stipe mumbles and it makes it hard to tell what hes saying. when you CAN tell what hes saying, then it just sounds annoying, yes.

Hey, I'm doing a report on new wave for school, and I'm required to include an interview. I was wondering if someone here could just answer one (or all, if you want) of the questions below. I really just need a sentence or two that I can quote or summarize, and your full name. I really am interested in the subject, but the interview is not a big part of my project. It just has to be included (don't you hate school?) These questions are pretty lame and broad, I know, but if someone could humor me, it would be much appreciated.
1. Do you think new wave would have been nearly as popular without the help of MTV?
2. Since there are multiple definitions floating around, basically, how do define new wave. What kind of sound do you consider new wave?
3. Same thing, with New Romantics.
4. Who do you consider some of the most influencial artists of new wave, and why?
5. Some people regard new wave as fluff, do you agree but enjoy it's poppy nature, or do you feel it has more depth?
6. Do you consider some punk part of new wave?
7. Do you consider the following artists new wave, and why or why not: Madonna and the Smiths.
8. What effect has new wave had on modern music, and what modern artists do you consider new wave? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

1. Unfortunately, I don't think New Wave music would have been nearly as popular if MTV were not around. It was the perfect vehicle for up and coming artists to show their promos and get noticed. For a few years during its heyday MTV was actually worth

#1: I don't think MTV had an effect on New Wave at all, becasue I have never watched MTV-ever. And I was totally into New Wave. In fact, they did not play many of the videos of the songs I liked on these video shows. Only the "popular" wave like the Sm
