Commercials Yet To Be Made

Postby Dave » Sun Feb 22, 2004 9:51 am

Rather than fight it, let’s help those poor marketing people! How about some creative ideas to get our favorite songs on TV. Hey, maybe the bands will get a few $$$…

Adam & the Ants – “Ants Invasion” for Raid
Boomtown Rats – “Up All Night” for NoDoz
Dead Kennedys – “Holiday in Cambodia” for the Cambodian Board of Tourism
Echo & the Bunnymen – “Do it Clean” for Trojan brands
Lene Lovich – “Lucky Number” for the State Lottery
Missing Persons – “Destination Unknown” for the US Postal Service (hey, they don’t all have to be winners)
Elvis Costello – “Pump it Up” for Viagra
Sigue Sigue Sputnick – “Love Missile F1-11” (extended version) also for Viagra 24 Hour
Siouxsie & the Banshees – “Hong Kong Garden” for my local chinese place
Sparks – “Angst in my Pants” for Metamucil
Sparks – “Mickey Mouse” for Disneyworld
Spizz Energie – “Where’s Captain Kirk?” for Priceline.com
World Party – “Ship of Fools” for Carnival Cruise Lines
Eurythmics – “Sweet Dreams” for Kraft Singles (you know... sweet dreams are made of cheese… hello… anyone… is this thing on?)

It would be quite amusing if some of the ad wonks would read this board (thread) and follow through on what you suggested. [}:)]

And of course Lene Lovich's "New toy" is being used for Target, so it all comes together.

I wonder how many times "Cars" by Gary Numan has been beaten to death for car commercials.

I think Blondie's "One way or another" has been used TWICE now.

'One way or another' is being used for Guacamole flavoured Doritos. Sad, huh?

I guess it could've been worse, it could have been along the lines of the commercial that featured that wart hog Enrique (son of Hoolio) Iglasis. Debbie could have been on stage chasing a big bag of Guac Chips to that song...

I'm gonna GETCHA, GETCHA

The Cure's 10:15 Saturday Night in a dating service commercial (some lonely guy sitting around listening to the song) segues into Love Song after he meets someone.

Japan's Gentlemen Take Polaroids for the obvious

DAVE: "Pump it Up" for Viagra is pure genius.
BHols: Love the NAMBLA joke. It's sick, but really, really funny.

I recently read that Johnny Cash's family is suing to keep "Ring of Fire" from being used in a hemmoroid cream commercial. That killed me.
