Irish New Wave

OK New Wave experts:

I'm trying to put together a CD of 80s and new wave music from Irish bands. I'm trying to exclude the obvious (U2, Sinead); I already know about some of the less-popular (in America) bands (Undertones, Boomtown Rats), and some forgotten acts (In Tua Nua, Zerra I, Cactus World News). There don't seem to be too many bands, and I'm hoping some of the folk on this board can come up with more. Suggestions please!

(BTW, I'm working with a fairly loose definition of "Irish;" Anglo-Irish bands are acceptable, as well as Irish bands based in the U.K. [Pogues, Men They Couldn't Hang, That Petrol Emotion are all acceptable, for instance.])

Some of these may fall into the obvious category, but how about Stiff Little Fingers, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Saw Doctors, Waterboys, Cranberries. (I won't mention Enya or Clannad [;)])

Then the Celtic influence continues with Scottish bands such as:

I always thought of the Waterboys as being more Scottish than Irish. Their founder/leader and constant member Mike Scott is a Scot and the band started in Scotland, moved to Ireland, moved back to Scotland and then finally moved to America. I may be a wee

True about the Waterboys - Auld Reekie is probably the closest they've had to a home. Although it's a bit hard to consider them new wave, WLIR did play The Whole of the Moon quite often.

Some that I can think of are: The Undertones, Blue in Heaven, Stiff Little Fingers, Radiators from Outer Space, Baltimora. Hmmm...I guess it is more difficult than I thought!

Other Irish bands of the 80's include; Ruefrex, Virgin Prunes, Moving Hearts, Horslips, Microdisney and Fatima Mansions, An Emotional Fish, Five go down to the sea, and Hothouse Flowers.
