Long ago when I was addicted to listening to the radio, I would keep track of how many times a group or artist would sing the title of a song in the song itself. For awhile Culture Club's "Time" was the record holder at around 50 occurences. Then I discovered the song had a subtitle (Clock of the Heart) which dropped its total to zero. (The title had to be sung exactly as it appeared...there's rules to this ya know) I kept track of these things for about three years but finally grew tired of having to listen so closely to songs and keep tally marks. I wish I still had this list. I wonder which song--new wave or not--would be the winner?
Then I decided I would just keep a list of every song I heard on the radio. I still have this list which fills a large three-ring binder--printed out on my nifty Apple II+!! This went on for another six years or so until I finally gave it up midway through college and got a job in radio myself.
I would also listen to American Top 40 religiously and write them down. When I couldn't catch the show or missed part of it I would buy a copy of Billboard and copy it down. I think I was the only 11 year-old reader of Billboard.

Anyone else waste years of their lives doing this kind of crap?

I think this behavior in an 11 year old kid would nowdays be called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and unfortunately result in them being pumped full of zoloft and prozac.[:(]

I used to do strange stuff like that all the time (and much worse). Thankfully whatever the problem was, it went away on it's own as I reached adulthood.

I think strange habits is a part of having a love for music but I don't think what's in the parenthesis of the title should count since it is a subtitle and not [i]THE[/i] title. You may have to go back to your lists.

Speaking of American Top 40, it suddenly became wildly unpopular about the time in the late 80s that Top 40 became a vast wasteland, AND the songs had to be edited, AND it was becoming harder for Casey to talk about the songs, or even say the titles.
