The Cure are one of those groups that are so ubiquitous in new wave that I rarely bother to play their stuff anymore, in favor of more obscure things. However, I'm never disappointed when I hear it.

They went through alot of changes/phases...which Cure period do you like to hear the most??

I think my favorite is when they were coming off the real somber, dirgey-type stuff like Pornography and getting into catchy, synth-derived stuff like Love Cats, the Walk, etc found on the 'Japanese Whispers' lp and then the 'Head on the Door' lp. Alot of good songs on those.

I was losing interest in them when Disintegration came out, but now I go back and listen and it's quite good; really like the last song on that, called 'untitled'.

I must admit my favourite period is the pre-Pornography stuff too. 'Primary' is still brilliant. Having said that, have you heard the live version of 'Trust' from the 'Show' CD. Just beautiful.

No questiosn in my mind that they're among the giants of new wave, but you're right that I take them for granted due to their ubiquity. I also think that they had a bit of a soft middle with greatness at the beginning and even at the end, even early 90s s

"seventeen seconds" & "pornography" & "japanese whispers" was their best. bpdp3 put it well, however. those might be slightly different sounding albums, but they really captured the cure's early sound. "head on the door" was already too poppy--i didn'

I think the Cure were always a great singles band. A lot of the b-sides even better than the hits. Their best period was 1980-1983 (Seventeen Seconds up to the Love Cats single). The Top is good; but a little uneven. I much prefer Roberts' side projec

I must disagree with Cubby, I thought Bloodflowers was their best album since Disintegration. Wish had a few good songs and I didn't really care for the other 90's albums, a few sporadic songs excepted.
