Legendary Cincinnati modern rock station WOXY "97X" has been sold to a Dallas-based radio company. A format change is most likely coming this spring. Many will remember Dustin Hoffman repeating their slogan "Bam! The Future of Rock and Roll" in the movie Rain Man as he and Tom Cruise drove through Cincinnati. They started in 1983 and somehow continued as a locally- owned and programmed station even in an era of mass radio consolidation. Their website says they plan on continuing the internet broadcast regardless of what the format change will be. I've listened to WOXY through the static since moving to the area in 1989 and will be sad to see it go. A HUGE playlist, local artists, alternative dance music, imports, out-of-print stuff and DJs who knew the music......it was a wondeful thing. Tune in at woxy.com (while you still can)
Now I know how WLIR's listeners feel.
