Seona Dancing!!!

In New Brunswick, NJ, Judy at Music In A Different Kitchen (the best record store in town) fell head over heels for the extended More To Lose, and thus was born the smallish outpost of Seona Dancing fandom there. (I was happy to be a willing accomplice - that was a great record!)

Apparently More to Lose was one of the most requested songs that they played at Skoochies (a dance club for teens in Seattle during the 80's). I just don't rememeber this song.

Fra Lippo Lippi were probably the most popular New Wave import in the Philippines during the '80s. They were introduced to the populace via the original incarnation of Manila's legendary New Wave radio station XB-102 (now revived with many original DJs - http://www.wxb102forever.com). After that, you could hear "Light and Shade," "The Distance Between Us," "Beauty and Madness," "Angel," "Come Summer," etc., on countless radio stations there.

Their 2003 album "In A Brilliant White" was only released in the Philippines. Here's my review of it:

Only vocalist Per Oystein Sorensen appears on "In A Brilliant White," but it still has that trademark Fra Lippo Lippi sound, especially on "Story of a Broken Heart." "Later" was used as a theme song for a Filipino soap opera.

"The Colour Album" is another strong effort, especially the Manila hit "Mother's Little Soldier" and "Love Is a Lonely Harbour."

There are some people who'll swear by their Gothic roots, but to me FLL at their best with those stunningly beautiful piano-driven numbers instead of trying to sound like Joy Division. However, "Small Mercies" was a haunting ride.

Anyone got a lead on this. Where has this information come from? A great band and we only get 4 songs! These demo tracks must be found.

These posts started around 2005, so i don't think the connection was made until 2006 on Paul Merton's chat show. But i've read other posts here, where people do mention him as the singer. I would love to get lossless copies of their songs.

I found this: Bill Macrae was a member of the early 1980s British New Wave duo Seona Dancing.[1] Macrae attended University College London, where he met Ricky Gervais in June 1982, and they ended up making a demo tape with sixteen songs. He was responsible for composing the songs, while Gervais acted as the lyricist and singer. After Seona Dancing broke up in 1984, Macrae worked at a record shop in the late '80s.

Or maybe couldn't care less? Gervais 2nd-rate Numan Impression combined with Macrae's dull music doesn't make people bothered enough to remember them?

I think the Gervais connection is a fun footnote...mostly because I never would have pegged the Ricky Gervais of today as a moody new waver from back in the day.

I remember hearing a dj spin one of their songs at a college dance in '84 and was kind of curious as to who they were and why they didn't have an album out. I never heard another word about them until the Gervais thing came up here a few years back.
