Smallville and Depeche Mode

Postby Frau_Blucher » Thu Sep 29, 2005 11:17 am

I'm puttin' this out there and embarrassment be damned. Smallville is my favorite TV show! I say it loud and I say it proud. But did anybody else catch the season opener tonight? The entire final 5 minutes was set to Depeche Mode's "Precious" from the upcoming Playing the Angel album as the soundtrack - very cool. Album is scheduled for release Oct 18th. Sounds promising. I guess they're reving up the marketing machine with these tie-ins and the upcoming tour starting Nov 2nd.

I saw it and heard it as well! sounds like it may be very promising. The song sounded very melodic in a minimal type of way. I wonder when Clark will get his powers bak too?

Agreed on 1. [:D]

At some point before he gets a chance to seal his relationship with Lana on 2. [:(]

I also love Smallville. Of course, I watch mainly for Sexxy Lexxy - but it's all good.

I've been watching Smallville since Day One, when I was starting out as a high school sophomore. Now I'm a college sophomore, and I still watch it.

I instantly recognized the Depeche Mode song when they played it last night.

I've been contemplating whether or not to go to their show here in South Florida...

Another great Smallville/New Wave tie-in tonight!

Did anybody else see the campy but great sequence to Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead"?! Someone's got it going on in that production staff! [:p]

Saw it and heard it too. I was looking for a frail pale white guy in a small cage somewhere in the background.

Alright Oneno, here's the plan. For next Thursday's episode, we grab some popcorn and beers, head over to our favorite sorority, and watch it in our PJ's with a bunch of nubile but legal college girls. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I just caught Thursday's episode on tape. Another ending sequence set entirely to a Depeche Mode-Playing the Angel sountrack. I love these guys. This time it was "I Want It All". I dig this little show!

Yet another Smallville message to the uncaring and uncleansed heathens...

Another great episode tonight. I think one of my favorite things about this show is it's use of pace and spacing to allow music and mood to be woven int the show. It wasn't Depeche Mode for the third time, but two pretty good tunes from James Blunt and Peter Gabriel, yet another of those 80s icons. Is there no one else who peeps this show?! [V]

Mmmmmm.... Smallville???? (we have WB and other channels that show USA's TV shows in Argentina). The last season has not been as good as the first one. I don't watch it so frequently now but sometimes do.
Gilmore Girls is way better. The references to New Wave are all over the show. I remembered that once Lane (Rory's friend) was depressed and she was listening to The Cure's Pictures of You or that when Sookie asked Lorelai for Rory's baby book, she said that the book was only filled with reflections on who was her favourite Tears for fears member. I can think of millions of moments with New Wave references.
I've never noticed it... but as Rory and all the rest of the characters grew up, I also did and I've developed many of the tastes they've developed in an unconscious way. When the show started Rory was supossed to be turming 16 and I was 13 by that time. Now I'm almost 19 (Rory has turned 21) and still love the show.

I wish they would use more songs like this on Smallville.
