For me it's not "Cars" but "Are 'Friends' Electric?"... I recall hearing it a lot on Q107 (Toronto fm station) back in the winter of '79/'80. It still brings back memories of frigid dark mornings and evenings driving to and from work.

IMOH the last great "New Wave" record - Everything seemed to splinter into genres after this one (synth pop, industrial, jangly brit pop, goth, college radio etc. etc.)
