I was at the Tanelorn Festival. My parents were typical hippies: long hair, beard (dad only), pot smoking, kombi driving, vegetarian, Bob Dylan and Beatles loving, sarong wearing etc.
In 1981 I was 10 years old. I remember the open spaces and hippies in tents at Tanelorn. I remember watching some of the bands. But mostly I remember the final night. Mi-Sex playing Computer Games was a highlight for me, being an avid Countdown watcher at the time.
Then the Oils came on. Pete was going mad as usual. He had a beanie on, and at one stage he took it off and steam was pouring off his head, and it was highlighted by the lighting. It was awesome. I remember Pete climbing up the speaker stacks and the scaffolding around the stage.
That was it. From that night I was a lifetime Oils fan. Ever since I have bought every record on the day of release. And now that Pete's an MP, I'm looking forward to the day when he will be Prime Minister of Australia.
The icing on the cake would be to hear a recording of that concert 24 years later. If anyone can help out I would be most grateful.
Cheers
Nathan
